Can the Cowboys survive without Dak Prescott, or is their season already doomed?

The Dallas Cowboys couldn’t have been more unlucky. The offense wasn’t clicking through the first 8 weeks and then, Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury. Prescott’s initial diagnosis was a partial avulsion of his hamstring tendon, meaning the hamstring was partially torn from the bone.

Now, the Dallas Cowboys QB1 has finally decided to undergo surgery. He’d have to visit New York to get the procedure done. So, how long will it take for him to bounce back to the field? Check out what the Dallas News reporter Calvin Watkins has to say about Dak Prescott’s recovery timeline.

Per Watkins’ post on X, “Dak Prescott said if the doctor says he needs surgery he’ll have it in New York this week. Prescott added if he avoids surgery it’s nearly six to eight weeks of recovery. If he has the surgery it’s three to four months recovery.”

At this point, the Dallas Cowboys’ management has really made some questionable choices. Prescott and Lamb became one of the highest-paid QB-WR duo but haven’t played like they are worth the investment. Prescott has played 8 games and is already nearing 2k yards, has 11 touchdowns with 8 interceptions, but to no certainty that his team will visit the playoffs.

Initially, Prescott was seeking for second opinion for surgery and wasn’t on the IR on Saturday. This made many believe that he would be missing four or more weeks but would eventually come back. Now, Prescott’s return sounds like a far-fetched reality. Initially, Cooper Rush was slated to replace Dak Prescott. But after the SNF game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Cowboys might want to turn their attention away from him.

The Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy told CBS that he would use Trey Lance in some packages, which was true in the 6-34 loss to the Eagles. On that note, let’s talk about Dallas’ quarterback performance in the Eagles upset.

Cooper Rush only completed 56.5% of his passes, as he went 13 of 23 over 45 yards. He fumbled the ball twice and was replaced by Trey Lance in the first half. Cooper Rush didn’t throw a pick, but it was just a matter of time before Trey Lance’s deep pass to Jalen Tolbert was picked off.

Trey Lance took control of the last quarter. But only had 4 of his 6 passes completed along with a pick. Also, the defense sacked Cooper Rush once and sacked Trey Lance twice. The team wasn’t able to pass for more than 66 yards, and nor were they able to rush it for more than 97 yards. Clearly, the team needs Dak Prescott to make things more dynamic.

The Cowboys spent nearly $400 million on Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb’s extension in this off-season. In hindsight, it looks like a really bad decision on their part.
