The Dallas Cowboys have been at the top of the media highlight these days. The team has made some questionable choices recently, decisions that made football analysts scratch their heads. To an extent, people understood why the Cowboys drafted seven defensive players in the draft, but they just signed a single receiver, which is a cause of concern because CeeDee Lamb is holding out.
PFF ranked as the NFL’s Most Valuable Receiver Lamb, and his stats show why. As of late, the star receiver hasn’t been showing up in the voluntary training camp because he feels like he needs a more lucrative deal from the team. The situation is the same with Dak Prescott. These two have been holding the Cowboys’ offense, and soon they might depart.

The NFL Live crew discussed this situation and concluded that the Dallas Cowboys should entertain CeeDee Lamb. Why? Because he didn’t miss a game this season, produced 1,749 yards with 12 touchdowns and 135 receptions. He made Dak Prescott’s life easy for sure. The receiver ranks 2nd in yardage.
Dan Orlovsky picked up this reasoning and shared his point of view on NFL Live. He said, “There’s not a receiver in the NFL who has more leverage than CeeDee Lamb right now, and that’s out of respect to Justin Jefferson. Without CeeDee Lamb, all they have left is Brandon Cooks. That’s it.”
The host mentioned how without Lamb, Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy’s jobs may also be in trouble. “So, we’re talking about an offense that’s in a situation where everything is on the line for head coach, quarterback, the future. There is not a wide receiver in this league that has more leverage right now than Cee Dee Lamb,” added Orlovsky.

A PFF study suggested that the Cowboys’ WR has the third-highest offensive grade in the league tied with Justin Jefferson. The receivers rated higher than him are Tyreek Hill and Brandon Aiyuk. Moreover, Lamb has the fifth-most snaps (675) on passing plays and performing better than Jefferson, Hill, and Aiyuk. Lamb not getting the deal can be detrimental to the Cowboys’ future.
Also, the WR holding out might already start to affect the Cowboys, whose quarterback position is also in jeopardy right now. Besides Prescott’s contract, this is Mike McCarthy’s last year with the Cowboys, and the team has not given him an extension. So, this season is his chance to prove that he can stay as the HC of the team.
Jerry Jones and executive VP Stephen Jones addressed the media in the post-draft presser, where he subtly indicated that Trey Lance might be the future of his team. “We think Lance is a good addition. Trey Lance to um looking ahead at having, uh, addressing the quarterback position depth otherwise. I’ve got it right here again, got him right here in this draft as though, uh, he were a draft pick for us,” expressed the 81-year-old Cowboys owner.

Apart from Prescott and Lamb, Micah Parsons, another Cowboys superstar is due for a contract renewal. So, the team’s finances require some readjustment in the future. One thing is for sure: if the Cowboys don’t patch things about with Prescott, Lamb, and Parsons, the team will undergo drastic changes and not for the better.
