The latest roast of Tom Brady has been constantly in the buzz for some good reasons and some not-so-good ones. While it was the former quarterback who was the butt of the most jokes, some of his former teammates also got caught in the cross-fire. One such player referenced was the late tight end Aaron Hernandez.
The former Patriots player lost his life in 2017 and left behind a daughter, Avielle, with his ex-fiance, Shayanna Jenkins Hernandez. WR Julian Edelman and Nikki Glaser jokingly referenced the tight end’s death, which was ruled a suicide. The late player’s partner was offended by the jokes and voiced out her disappointment.
Shayanna expressed her dismay at the Netflix special and how people’s judgemental opinions of him live on even though she’s lost her partner. She also feels that their 11-year-old daughter might come across the jokes, and it might tarnish her image of her dad, who she thinks of as her hero. “It’s sad that I’m trying to raise my children in such a cruel world,” she said, as per TMZ.

Hernandez spent three seasons in New England before being convicted in 2013 for the Murder of Odin Lloyd. Four years later, the tight end ended his life in his Lancaster prison cell at the age of 27. Comedian Nikki Glaser referenced Hernandez while talking about Randy Moss. “Give it up for zero-time Super Bowl champion Randy Moss,” she said. “Why don’t you have a ring? What the hell, man? You’re one of the best ever. Drew Bledsoe has a ring. Aaron Hernandez had a ring…around his neck.”
While making fun of teammate Rob Gronkowski, Edelman also mentioned the incident, saying, “Everyone always asks me how big Gronk’s d–k is. Now, don’t get me wrong, it gets the job done. But there was this other Patriots tight end. Now he was hung.” Shayanna was understandably upset by the inappropriate jokes, which she felt “should have been off limits.” However, she wasn’t the only one who found the humor distasteful, as fans’ reactions flooded social media soon afterward.
Aaron Hernandez jokes: “unnecessary and classless”
While the purpose of a roast is to poke fun at otherwise serious matters, many NFL fans felt the Hernandez jokes went a bit too far. One X user questioned why people were joking about the late player when the roast was supposed to be about Brady.
why were so many people roasting aaron hernandez at the roast of tom brady…..like he ain’t even there damn

Another user felt that while one joke was expected, the amount of references was “embarrassing.”
The Tom Brady roast last night was hilarious and fun to watch but the amount of Aaron Hernandez jokes was unnecessary and classless. One joke about it was inevitable, but it got to a point where it was embarrassing how many jokes were made about him.

Hernandez’s criminal history was one of the main reasons behind the casual mention of the player’s death. An internet user acknowledged the fact but felt that exposing his young daughter to it in this way wasn’t right.
Aaron Hernandez was a troubled young man. He paid his price. The daughter does not need to hear it, except when her mom is ready to explain it

Aaron Hernandez had a shining career ahead of him as he entered the NFL, which later took a dark turn. While some may feel that it is reason enough to validate the humor at his death’s expense, other fans and his fiance definitely feel otherwise.
