When injured Dak Prescott arrived with crutches to watch the Dallas Cowboys’ match-up against the Texans, he did not expect the franchise would suffer their fifth straight loss. The Cowboys’ #4 admitted, that “a couple of tears came down” after the setback on the November 19 game and continued saying, “This is going to hurt”. The team lost terribly against the Eagles (34-6), the Texans (34-10), and the Lions (47-9) when Prescott was there on the field. But after his ‘partial hamstring avulsion’ in Week 9, the $240 million worth QB is showing no signs of a return to help out the sinking ship.
In the November 24 game, Cooper Rush led the Cowboys to break down the team’s losing streak with a 34-26 win over the Commanders. Another good news for Dallas is that their injured star is in a head-to-head fight for the NFL’s 11th annual ‘Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award’. The #4 will compete with Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Jordan Love (among 32 other players in total). But before revealing major nominees, let’s get to know what the award is all about.
The Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award is presented annually to the player who exemplifies outstanding sportsmanship. The awardee receives $25000 from the organization for the charity of the player’s choice. Art Rooney was a Pro Football Hall of Famer and founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He died in 1988. The Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner won the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award for the 2023-24 season. Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals was the first to win this award. Per the NFL official page, the list of players for the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award includes the following stars.

In parallel with the Dallas Cowboys’ Prescott, the other 31 players in the competition include Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills), Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers), Maxx Crosby (Las Vegas Raiders), Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins), Aaron Jones (Minnesota Vikings), Leonard Williams (Seattle Seahawks) and Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs) among others. But I don’t think Prescott would think about an award as his team is navigating a rocky path.

“The other day, after the game, I guess, it all just hit me. Boom, right. A couple of tears came down,” Prescott confessed about his team’s loss to the Texans and continued, “This is going to hurt. It’s going to suck at times. You just have to understand this is one of the moments that it does. I don’t want anything right now other than to let it suck.” While his concern for the Cowboys was piling up, the team broke the cycle and won against the Commanders, after their last victory on October 7 against the Steelers. The pro player could not see his team struggling badly without him. Losing on home ground is scary.
However, before Prescott was forced out of the game against the Falcons (27-21), the Cowboys were already suffering with 5 losses out of 8 games till week 9. But Prescott had a completion percentage of 64.7 completing 185 throws out of 286 attempts. Another interesting thing about the ‘Dak attack‘ is he scored at least one touchdown in every 8 games this season, except on October 14 against the Lions. Despite this, the Dallas team fumbled. It’s scary to rank 3rd in the division where the top position is secured by the Eagles (9-2).
The backup QB Cooper Rush is trying to fill the gap in the absence of No. 4 but falling short. However, he showed his best performance against the Commanders by completing 24 out of 32 passes with 75 CMP% after 58.2% against the Texans, where the Cowboys suffered a loss and made Dak Prescott cry. Their next game will be against the Giants.
