“I don’t need 40M per year.” Those were Micah Parsons’s words back in December when asked whether he needs $40M to remain a Cowboy. At that time, it looked as if his primary intention was to be “surrounded by good players” instead of chasing money. But after seeing how the offseason made franchises basically worship edge rushers. Parsons probably has a change of mind.
As per Dallas News’ Calvin Watkins, “Cowboys star LB Micah Parsons is seeking a record $200M contract extension that would make him the NFL’s highest-paid non-QB in NFL history.” Well, what a surprise—or is it? Seeing how the value of edge rushers has seemingly doubled. It isn’t a total surprise that the Cowboys LB doesn’t wanna be left behind.
Here’s the thing: Parsons is still signed through the 2025 season on his rookie deal. And the Cowboys also have a $24M club option they could probably use on their star linebacker. But since the Cowboys and Parsons’s agents haven’t had any serious talks just yet. It seems he might be heading for a holdout once the training camp comes rolling.

Actually, missing out on voluntary OTAs isn’t something new to Parsons. Last season, he sat out the offseason workouts, stating it allowed his “body to heal.” As for the fines, it would be peanuts for Micah. Skipping mandatory training camp would cost him barely $100K. And if the Cowboys don’t sign him before June. His absence from the Cowboys minicamp wouldn’t be a total surprise. Parsons saw Myles Garrett bag a $40M per season as he slowly edges towards 30 in December. Considering he only turns 26 in May, the Cowboys can get more years out of Parsons than the Browns can get out of Garrett.
There are also his productions, which make his $200M claim stronger. After missing 4 games with an ankle injury, Parsons came back and recorded 12 sacks in just 13 games. All in all, he has 52.5 sacks over 4 seasons in Dallas. So, if it isn’t him taking the crown of the highest paid non-QB next, then who?
While Parsons might soon be the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history, the highest-paid QB seems to have delivered a piece of good news for the Dallas family.

Dak Prescott might soon take the field again
Months after signing his four-year, $240M contract extension, Prescott was supposed to give the Cowboys a strong start last season. But through week 9, Prescott only led the Cowboys to just 3 wins, ending their playoff hopes early into the campaign. Prescott’s hamstring injury revealed a partial tendon avulsion that pulled his hamstring from the bone, leaving surgery as his only option for a speedy recovery.

With Prescott out, the Cowboys’ season ended 7-10, missing out on the playoffs after 3 consecutive postseason berths. Now, with whatever the hell is going in the Star. Obviously, if the Cowboys want a rebound season, they will need Prescott back soon and healthy, of course. So, after stating a few months ago he couldn’t run properly. Prescott gave an enlightening update on his hamstring injury. “I’m feeling good. I’m going more and more. The last two weeks have been huge and progressive for me,” Prescott shared.

This would be welcome news for the Cowboys. Prescott also effortlessly threw deep balls without any lingering issues. Now, 5.5 months removed from his hamstring injury. And with the training camp still 4 months away. Dallas would be hoping they can get their star QB soon to kickstart their 2025 campaign preparations.
