“Excited!” That’s how Cowboys Nation felt heading into the 2024 season. But now, just three weeks in, let’s not even talk about the vibe. Why? Well, despite Jerry Jones spending over $375 million, including Dak Prescott’s $240 million contract and CeeDee Lamb’s $136 million deal, the returns aren’t exactly what fans expected. Instead of the dynamic QB-WR duo lighting up the field, it’s been more of a no-show. And a former offensive guard didn’t hold back in letting the Cowboys know how ‘fundamentally flawed’ they are, despite all the cash they threw around.
On his podcast, GoJo and Golic, on September 23rd, Mike Golic Jr. was brutally honest with his assessment after Dallas’ 25-28 loss to the Ravens. He admitted to touting the Cowboys as ‘contenders’ ahead of the season and corrected himself by saying, “I was wrong; the Dallas Cowboys, in no way, shape, or form, resemble a contender right now.” Ouch! But honestly, can you blame him? With that kind of payroll, you’d expect a Super Bowl-caliber team, right? Instead, Golic points out the bigger issue: “This is a fundamentally flawed football team that I don’t think has the means to address those flaws before the end of the season.” Harsh, but fair.
“I’m probably going to have to put my hand up and admit I was wrong; the Dallas Cowboys, in no way, shape, or form, resemble a contender right now.
At the end of the day, in the places that matter, this is a fundamentally flawed football team that I don’t think has the means to… pic.twitter.com/RGWLkOyW6k

Dallas’ 25-28 loss to the Ravens was more than just a close game; it was a glaring reminder of the Cowboys’ struggles. Sure, they rallied late, but, hey, if we are being honest–this team is living dangerously. Drama seems to be Dallas’ best friend, but you can’t win games on theatrics alone. Jerry Jones might enjoy the high-stakes tension, but the Cowboys’ inconsistency is starting to feel more like trash TV than Super Bowl potential.
This isn’t just about one bad game. Dallas has been getting shredded on the ground for weeks, and Ted Nguyen from The Athletic summed it up perfectly: In the 2023 NFC divisional round, they gave up 143 rushing yards to the Packers. Last week, it was 190 yards to the Saints. This week? A staggering 274 yards to the Ravens. Dallas’ defense? They’ve been leaking yardage like a broken dam, allowing an average of 185.7 rushing yards per game so far. It’s clear the Cowboys’ defense, especially up front, is too light to stop the run. At this point, the league knows their weakness and they are exploiting it to the maximum.
However, the issues don’t stop there. The offense has been lacking the energy as well. Dak Prescott tends to heat up only when the game’s nearly out of reach. Down 28-6, he tossed two touchdowns, but it was too little, too late. And CeeDee Lamb’s 218 receiving yards and a single touchdown so far this season? You certainly do not expect mediocrity coming from the guy after his $136 million contract extension, do you?
Case in point. Dallas fans expect more from a team that spent this much money on its stars. With games against the Giants and Steelers coming up, it’s now or never for Jerry Jones’ most valuable franchise in Sports to actually show it’s worth. Because right now, they are just making fans gasp and sigh in pain. Even Tom Brady couldn’t mask his shock at what he was watching.

With each misstep, it felt like the Cowboys were adding fuel to the fire of their fans’ despair, and even Brady couldn’t keep a straight face about it. The moment was gold for viewers. Play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt chimed in, “Well ,if you’re frustrated, I’m guessing they’re frustrated.”

That’s an understatement! Fans across social media found humor in Brady’s candidness. One joked, “If Tom Brady gets Fox to keep the Cowboys off the national games, then he truly is the GOAT.”
So much for America’s Team. They are losing credibility amongst the pigskin fanatics with such performances. Also, because it’s all ‘money’, no show from Jerry Jones and Co. And in such times you’ve got to feel for the Cowboys Nation. How much is too much?
