Here’s a scene for you: It’s 2016, Tony Romo goes down, and a wide-eyed rookie named Dak Prescott is suddenly under center for the Cowboys. Fast forward to 2024, and the roles have flipped like a perfectly executed flea-flicker. Now Dak’s the veteran QB, showing Trey Lance the ropes and tossing out wisdom like he’s calling audibles. Cowboys quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien summed it up perfectly: “He’s been great… teaching him the ropes.”

But Scott did not say how Dak became ‘great’. It’s all him’, he’d say. However, Scott was more than that to Prescott in his early days. But where does that lead to in Dallas? Nowhere. Welcome to the Jerry Jones‘ World.

Speaking of Jerry, the man’s at it again, shaking up the roster like a coach pulling a surprise onside kick. Tolzien, the QB whisperer who helped Dak navigate his MVP runner-up season, is out. His contract expired, and it looks like he’s moving on. It’s classic Cowboys drama, and Jerry’s pulling the threads.

Here’s the thing about JJ, though: he loves playing the maestro, pulling strings, and orchestrating drama. But let’s be real—sometimes it feels more like a chaotic symphony. Letting Tolzien walk feels like another one of those head-scratching gambles.

However, for Tolzien, this isn’t the end of the road. A former Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner and ex-NFL journeyman, he’s got the resume to land somewhere soon. And with Mike McCarthy heavily touted to snag that Saints job, don’t get surprised if you hear a certain Scott moving his bases to New Orleans.

There’s a reason why Rapoport called him a “talented QB tutor,” and it’s hard to argue. He took Dak Prescott through his career-best season in 2021—4,516 passing yards and 36 touchdowns. If that doesn’t earn him a shot elsewhere, what will?

Is Jerry Jones's roster shake-up a genius move or another Cowboys catastrophe waiting to happen?

Now, speaking of Dak, this could be the end for him in Dallas. Tolzien had been a constant presence in his career since joining Dallas in 2020, climbing the coaching ladder from assistant to quarterbacks coach. His departure means yet another adjustment for Dak, who’s already weathered eight staff changes since 2022. That’s a lot of turnover for a QB trying to keep the Cowboys competitive in a stacked NFC.

‘Pressure pushin’ down on me…’

Meanwhile, Jerry’s gamble on promoting from within continues. Schottenheimer’s rise follows a pattern of keeping familiar faces in-house but with mixed results. It’s a strategy that screams loyalty, but will it deliver wins? Some are literally lashing it out at Jones. Hope that sums it up for you.

Jerry Jones’ sucking the oxygen out of the Big D

Jerry Jones—where do we even start? The man isn’t just the face of the Cowboys (sigh!); he’s practically the team’s heartbeat, for better or worse. His hands-on approach keeps him in every headline, but at what cost? Sometimes, it feels like the Cowboys are playing second fiddle to their owner’s soap opera.

Take his latest move: promoting Brian Schottenheimer to head coach. Sure, Schottenheimer’s been in the building, but let’s not ignore the elephant on the field—this guy’s never held the clipboard as an HC. Jerry called it a “no-brainer.” Yeah! To him, everything’s a no-brainer. But to fans, it feels like he’s rolling the dice on fourth and long.

Schottenheimer’s track record is…well, mixed. He’s been an OC for what feels like half the league, and while his offenses have had moments of brilliance, they’ve also floundered. Case in point: 2023 saw the Cowboys leading the league in scoring. Fast forward to 2024, and they barely cracked the top 20. Consistency? Not exactly his strong suit.

And then there’s Dez Bryant. The former star wideout didn’t hold back, calling the move “sabotage.” To be exact, he wrote on his X: “Somebody is getting sabotaged. SMH.” Can you blame him? When names like Kellen Moore and Robert Saleh were in the mix, handing the reins to a guy with zero head coaching experience feels like a Hail Mary with no one in the end zone.

Jerry insists Schottenheimer is the guy to take Big D to the promised land. Fans? They’re not so sure. One fan wrote: “I am not going to a single Cowboys game at AT&T Stadium until Jerry Jones is out of the picture. He needs to go. Stephen Jones needs to go too. I’m sick.” OUCH!

The Cowboys Nation has seen this movie on loop, for god only knows how long—bold moves, big promises, and a whole lot of mediocrity. It’s enough to make you wonder if Jerry’s steering the ship or just enjoying the headlines.
