Jason Witten, former Dallas Cowboys TE, retired in 2020 with the second-most receptions and receiving yards by a TE in NFL history. He made the record by playing 271 games in history as TE. But Jason Witten’s connection with football didn’t end when he retired.

Now, he’s in a new chapter, sharing his love for the game with his two sons, Cooper and C.J. Both boys play football for Liberty Christian School, where Jason is the head coach. This school is located in Argyle, Texas, near Fort Worth. Cooper received his first college scholarship offer from the Oklahoma Sooners recently.

This exciting news came after Cooper participated in the Sooners’ summer prospect camp. Cooper, who just finished his freshman year, was thrilled to receive the offer. He posted about it on social media with some of the pictures from the camp and expressed gratitude for this opportunity. He stated that after a mind-blowing camp, he even had a conversation with the university coach Zac Alley. 

Witten has shown great promise on the football field. Cooper played as a safety and made 82 tackles, which includes 4 for a loss. Jason’s son even recorded 2 interceptions. The 6-foot-2 also had 6 pass deflections, forced 2 fumbles, and blocked 3 field goal attempts. Because of his impressive performance on field, he received many accolades including first-team all-district and district newcomer of the year. Behind his achievement, his father’s role is notable.

As per USA Today, Jason once told in an interview, It’s family, you know? You got to get kids to believe that they can win, believe that they can have success, believe in the power of the team and what it can teach you. His statements reflect his endless encouragement for his kids. Not only did he showcase support for his children, but his support and leadership quality made the Warriors defeat the Regents Knights 52-10 at Waco ISD Stadium.

With a 40-plus point lead early in the second half, the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools rules required a running clock. Liberty Christian finished their season undefeated with a 14-0 record. Jason showed immense pride for his team and got emotional when talking about winning the title.

He said, These guys, I tell them all the time. These are the guys in your wedding, the ones who stand by you during hard times in life. I know that’s been true for me. The game of football has taught me so much more than I could ever give back. To be able to experience this, on this stage, I’m so honored.” 

Jason’s transition from NFL star to high school coach illustrates the enduring power of passion and mentorship. His efforts to support and develop young players, especially his sons, ensure that his legacy in football will continue for generations.
