Did you hear Micah Parsons claiming that the Dallas Cowboys will win the Super Bowl next year? Yes, you heard that right. The linebacker recently made this claim after wrapping up their embarrassing season with 7-10. But doesn’t that sound premature? Given that the Cowboys have no idea who will be their head coach next year, right?

The Cowboys legend, Chris Canty, feels the same. Though he has pretty serious concerns about his former team besides their head coach issues. When asked if there’s a scenario where Parsons is right, Canty had a straightforward response. “No, there’s not a world where he’s right because the problems that the Cowboys got to fix can’t get done in one off-season.” Canty may seem too harsh on Parsons, but it’s a fact.

It’s as simple as that, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys have strangled themselves when it comes to their financial strategy for this coming off-season. “Well, first of all, they’re 24th in cap space going into 2025,” Canty continued.  “So they’re going to be limited in terms of what they can do in free agency to supplement the core players that they already have on this roster.” That seems like a solid statement, especially considering the Cowboys have already committed over $386 million in contracts to Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Parsons.

Speaking of free agents, DeMarcus Lawrence and Zack Martin are at the end of their contracts. Now, the question is, what will they do with Tank? “You got question marks in terms of what you’re going to do with Tank Lawrence’s contract,” Canty remarked. “Because that that’s over with. So you got to figure out what you’re going to do with him, whether you’re going to try to resign him.”

On the other hand, the Cowboys have got the veteran, Martin, on their roster who’s not only at the end of his contract with the team but also nearing the end of his career. All in all, the Cowboys have a lot of areas to address, from the offensive line to the front seven to their two safeties. And it doesn’t seem like one offseason would be enough for them. Now, the Super Bowl seems a long way off for Parsons, right?

Micah Parsons wants to win Super Bowl amidst Jones’ mishandling

First things first: The Cowboys are paying nearly $376 million to Prescott, and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb on four-year contracts. With Parsons eyeing a contract extension soon, this could put the Cowboys in a terrible position. Why? Because, according to Spotrac, the team is expected to have only $15.152 million in cap space for 2025. That said, NFL analyst Mike Greenberg is not happy with the team’s significant financial constraints.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jerry Jones' financial strategy the real obstacle to the Cowboys' Super Bowl dreams?

Have an interesting take?

“Jerry Jones, with all due respect, has completely mishandled his team’s finances,” Greenberg said on ESPN’s morning show, “Get Up.” “He’s [Jones] a brilliant financial genius when it comes to anything that doesn’t have a salary cap, but, when it comes to this, he’s gotten this completely wrong.”

The thing is, the Cowboys have locked down key positions, whether it’s quarterback, pass rusher, left tackle, or wide receiver. However, there is still a problem with the roster because these players have eaten up the salary cap. And if Parsons is talking about winning the Super Bowl next year, he surely knows the team needs to address other areas as well. Especially, the need to focus on the rest of the roster, and based on how things are shaping up, the Cowboys don’t have enough resources to fix these problems. Not in just one offseason, of course.
