If there is any NFL team that has been in a tornado this season, it’s the Dallas Cowboys and very few people can deny that. You can’t change the facts, right? Dak Prescott’s $240 million contract and his season-ending injury have been a headache for the Cowboys. Mike McCarthy’s departure couldn’t stop the drama that continued in the HC search. But Jerry Jones has not yet fulfilled the expectations of his die-hard fans and, in fact, his former players as well.

One of such former Cowboys players, Darren Woodson (Safety, 1992-2003), has a different take. Woodson was on FOX Sports where he was asked about the ‘Cowboy’s concerns’. And the former NFL safety said, “I think that’s probably the biggest issue right now is that there’s nothing to hold on to. There’s nothing to grab on to say, ‘Hey, okay, I’m going to believe in going into next season that there’s going to be some change.’” He isn’t wrong there.

He also added, “There’s not a lot of change that’s going to be taking place. Schottenheimer’s been in the building.” A couple of weeks ago, Jerry Jones hired a new head coach from his ‘comfort zone.’ There were a lot of rumors swirling around the Cowboys headquarters, which involved Deion Sanders, Pete Carroll, and Robert Saleh. But he ended up choosing Schottenheimer, who has zero head coaching experience.

Talking about the HC situation, Woodson added, “I mean, people felt like, okay, well, let’s burn the bridge, let’s burn the boats and start all over again. And that wasn’t the case. Once McCarthy left, we basically hired from within and there was zero excitement.” The former safety also took a jab at Dak Prescott. “Week 12 of the season, Dak got hurt. I mean, there were just so many negative things that happened this season,” Woodson said while calling Prescott’s injury like domino effects or the start of a vicious cycle.

Though Jerry Jones is extremely confident in Brian Schottenheimer, his former WR is not! The Cowboys’ former WR Dez Bryant has made a surprising comment on the new HC of his former team. Wanna know what he said? Let’s dive in!

Former Cowboys WR dubious about Jerry Jones’s new HC hire

Dez Bryant, the Cowboys‘ former player, was in conversation with Yahoo Sports’ reporter, Caroline Fenton. When asked about Jerry Jones’s hire of Brian Schottenheimer, Bryant could hold back. The three-time Pro Bowl started his take on the new Cowboys HC, saying, “I’m an energy guy. I don’t know the coach, I can’t wish good or bad on him, but my energy is telling me that it won’t be successful.” Bryant has always been close to the Cowboys even after his retirement. A month ago, he was talking about how the culture at the franchise is not right and needs to change.

To continue with his take on Schottenheimer, Bryant added, “I just think it’s gonna be too much for him. I think it’s bigger than just him being the head coach. I don’t know if he can deal with the scrutiny of the fans. Us Cowboy fans, us Texans, we love our football, we ready to win.” He further said, “Cowboys ain’t won a Super Bowl since the ’90s. Like I said, I was a fan playing for the hometown team, so I get it. I don’t know if he’ll be able to deal with all that rah-rah from guys like us. So I don’t see success.” And hold on, Dez Bryant didn’t stop here. The former WR also explained what was missing in the New hiring by Jerry Jones.

While naming and comparing successful head coaches in the NFL with the Cowboys, Bryant said, “You’re missing a Bill Belichick. You shouldn’t have ever let go of Dan Quinn. Ben Johnson was out there. It was guys that could take this team to the next level, and I feel like we let it slip through our fingers to have a shot at success.” The Cowboys have been in a whirlwind of debates and opinions. If we can catch it, it started after Dak Prescott’s season-ending injury and Mike McCarthy’s departure.

Though Jerry Jones is confident in Schottenheimer, he has also hinted at risks. While discussing HC’s experience, Jones said, “This is as big a risk as you can take. As big a risk as you can take. No head coaching experience.” So, let’s see if Brian Schottenheimer would be able to end the Cowboys’ Super Bowl drought or not.
