Is Dak Prescott really worth $70 million a year, or is this just insane?

It’s the 9th season of Dak Prescott, as the 31-year-old QB nears the closure of his Cowboys‘ contract. Well, the QB is currently set to hit the cap of $55 million in 2024, but what’s next? With the player and the team locked in negotiations on a potential extension, speculations on his future contract are rising. And it looks like Mike Fisher has dropped his thoughts on X.

DAK AS $70M MAN?” Mike seemed to be surprised as he questioned the NFL world about the future value of Dak’s contract. It looks like his question came up from a source: “‘Patient’ Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Can Sign $70 Million Per Year Contract“. But what’s the role of patience here? Jared Goff‘s contract value ($53 million) might be near Prescott’s, but not his records. And do you remember the $55 million Cincinnati Bengals deal with Joe Burrow? Well, Prescott’s TDs are set at 30.5, which is marginally higher than the 28.5 TD score of Joe Burrow. Moreover, Dak’s passing records are also higher than Joe’s, giving him the advantage of being a better QB. And a better contract is often preceded by a better performance, right? Well, it seems like it’s a game of patience now as the Cowboys’ contract is set to expire soon.

And that might create chances for Dak Prescott to be a free agent. Well, on the First Take show, Mina Kimes presents a strong prediction for Dak if he accepts free agency: “If Dak tests free agency, he is going to get paid an ungodly amount of money.” And she seems to have enough justification for her statement, as she takes the example of Kirk Cousins.

About to be 36 years old, Cousins returned from a torn Achilles injury, became a free agent, and found the Falcons to pay him $45 million. He is also not as good as Prescott, “Worse quarterback than Dak Prescott,” per Kimes on the FirstTake show. Prescott’s 2023 season yard coverage (4516) and number of TDs (36) nearly double Kirk’s yard coverage (2331) and TD (18). Being 4 years younger than Kirk, Dak seemed to have a higher chance of grabbing an ungodly deal in the future.

Amidst all the speculations on his contract’s value, what are the thoughts of the Cowboys’ QB? Will he leave his team to become a free agent?

Dak Prescott: A pursuit of payday or passion for the game

Is Dak Prescott really worth $70 million a year, or is this just insane?

Have an interesting take?

It seems like Prescott doesn’t care for money. “I don’t play for money. Never have cared for it, to be honest with you, yeah” said Prescott to an ESPN staff writer. Furthermore, according to Dak, it’s the ‘business people’ who should decide his actual value, not something he should think of. With a massive record of 29,493 yards covered in 8 seasons with the Cowboys, Dak seemed to be a loyal member of the Cowboys. Moreover, the QB further justifies it.

Prescott said that he’s ‘under contract’ in 2024, and that’s what matters for him right now. He doesn’t like to think of his contract, as he has “a ton of confidence” that things will fall into place. “I’ve got a ton of confidence, but honestly, it’s not something I think about.” Moreover, the Cowboys’ QB seems to be more confident of success this year: “I’m here in training camp and focused on this year.
