This season for the Cowboys was supposed to be the one where it all came together. The Cowboys’ front office had pitched an all-in mentality, and Jerry Jones had mentioned they were going to do everything to win the Super Bowl. It clearly seemed like it was going to be an all-or-nothing season for the Cowboys. And well, it turns out, it was a ‘nothing’ season. The weirdest thing that everyone noticed is how the Cowboys’ decision-makers did not seem to follow their all-in approach.
Recently, Spotrac shared a stat that would surprise everyone. In a post on X, they shared, “The Dallas Cowboys spent an NFL-low $18.85M in free agency last offseason (Eleven 1-year contracts).” To put this into contrast, the Eagles reportedly spent over $100 million in free agency, and the difference in performance is visible.

All of this came to light after Jane Slater took to X, to share an update on Deion Sanders. Sanders was reportedly approached by Jones recently for the HC role. While Sanders didn’t seem interested in the role, news about him asking for more money for NIL and his staff from CU and that being met with resistance has come to light. This has made many people think, would ‘Coach Prime’ entertain a move to the Cowboys for more money?
Well, it doesn’t seem like it. Sanders made an appearance on The Pacman Jones Show, where he shared his plans. ‘Coach Prime’ has made it clear that he does not want to move to the NFL and loves the Colorado Buffs. He said, “I love where I am. I’m elated [about] where I am. I’m happy where I am. I can’t wait to see what the future holds with where I am, and I love Boulder, Colorado.” Jones certainly wanted Sanders to join the Cowboys, but that for now is not likely to happen. So, what’s next for the Cowboys?

What’s the way forward for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys?
The Cowboys ended their season 7-10, unable to make it to the postseason. And what was the reason behind that? It clearly wasn’t just about the Cowboys not spending much in free agency, the team also seemed not interested in retaining their own players. Approximately 8 players left the Cowboys last season as free agents, with their total contracts amounting somewhere close to $100 million.
According to OvertheCap, the total Cap liabilities for the Cowboys are $296,107,373, with a team cap space of $285,056. Well, this doesn’t paint the full picture as there will be several players leaving, opening up that cap amount for the Cowboys. The question, though, is not about the Cowboys having that money, but whether they will be spending it.
What’s your perspective on:
Did Jerry Jones' frugality cost the Cowboys their Super Bowl dreams this season?

Well, they certainly need to, and the first position they need to fill is that of the HC. With the Sanders move not likely to happen, there is another name that has come out as the frontrunner for the job. Former Cowboys QB and current Eagles OC Kellen Moore seems to be most likely to join the Cowboys. This move does make sense, as Moore has a history with the Cowboys as he was the OC for the team from 2019 to 2022. It was a successful partnership as well, with the Cowboys leading the league in total offense in 2019 and 2021.

It all boils down to what Jerry Jones and the Cowboys decide. For now, the Sanders way is closed for them and they need to look for other alternatives as soon as possible.
