Micah Parsons expressed his frustrations as the Eagles swooped in and selected Quinyon Mitchell in the draft. But the Cowboys later made up for it after drafting the Oklahoma tackle Tyler Guyton. While the Cowboys have a major running back problem, they drafted a Right Tackle out of Oklahoma, who is set to replace Tyron Smith and play left tackle on the team. Guyton felt excited about the new milestone in his life and Michael Gehlken, the Cowboys reporter took to X to talk about what Guyton said.

In his recent post on X, Gehlken wrote, “New Cowboys LT Tyler Guyton: “I couldn’t ask for a better team to play for.” Said he is “really excited” to play on left side after primarily being a RT at Oklahoma. “I’ll jump right in at left tackle and do whatever I can.” On replacing Tyron Smith: “I’m going to work my ass off to do the best I can.”

Standing tall at 6’7” and 327lbs, the Sooners tackle earned second-team All-District honors and helped lead his team to the state quarterfinals. However, his getting drafted by the Dallas Cowboys might not have been a complete coincidence. Guyton met with the Dallas team at the beginning of March, and he also grew up to be a Dallas Cowboys fan, as per a Cowboys journalist.

Guyton started nine of his 10 games in the 2023 season and earned an honorable mention in All-Big 12 as a right tackle. He rated 60.5 as a run blocker and 72.9 as a pass blocker on 355 pass blocks and played a career-high 663 offensive snaps.

A year before, Guyton had started as a left tackle but moved to RT for the rest of the season. But as luck would have it, the Cowboys and Guyton are united, and he will be playing LT again. After this feat, the Sooners have marked a special place for themselves in history.

Tyler Guyton makes Oklahoma Sooners more noticeable

As it stands, the LT’s selection marked the Sooners’ 49 first-round NFL Draft selection. However, it’s only the second year in a row that the OU team contributed tackles in the first round of the draft. Anton Harrison was drafted 29 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars last year.

Before this day, OU was on a 10-year drought of contributing any offensive linemen to the NFL. The Eagles drafted Lane Johnson at No.4 overall in the 2013 draft.
