Money attracts money! Last month, Dak Prescott became the highest paid quarterback (annual salary-wise) in the league. He signed a 4-year $240 million deal with the Cowboys. Now, the footballer is becoming a businessman. He’s looking to add millions, if not billions, to his wealth. This Friday, on 4th of October, the quarterback is launching a new tequila brand named Volteo.
He has put his mind into its creation. A Spanish spirits company’s American unit, Zamora Company USA, announced that Prescott made a founder-level investment. For 2 years, the NFL star has been working. The brand in entering the market with 3 variants: blanco ($70), reposado ($90), and cristalino ($100). It’s organic. Additive Free Alliance organization is checking if it’s additive-free or not. That would be another speciality once achieved.
With this, the NFL star is going into a battle with another sportsman who revolutionized the Tequila business. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson! The wrestler-turned-actor has raked in $3.5 billions since launching his Teramana tequila in 2020. In 2022, the brand sold more than 1 million cases. Mammoth!

To race ahead of his competition, Dak Prescott has tried a few things differently. The tequila is being distilled at Destileria Casa de Piedra (NOM 1586) in Jalisco, Mexico. While the ‘reposado’ has been aged in bourbon barrels for 3 months, the ‘cristalino’ is aged for 3 months in French oak wine barrels before filtering to remove color.
There’s another reason the NFL star insisted that the product be made naturally.
Dak Prescott’s plan to fund charity from his tequila business
The quarterback’s personal life has hit significant roadblocks at times. In November 2013, when he played for the Mississippi state, his mother died because of colon cancer. 7 years later, in April 2020, his elder brother, Jace, committed suicide. Wanting to help others in need, Dak Prescott founded Faith Fight Finish Foundation.

He plans to drive a portion of sales from the tequila business to his charity. The money would definitely give a big boost to colon cancer research and mental health initiatives. On a personal level, these things have also forced him to watch his diet and lifestyle.
His tequila business is also based on his life principles. Matt Appleby, Zamora Company USA CEO, revealed the quarterback’s mentality when he was working to create the tequila and said, “As an athlete, Dak is very thoughtful about what he eats and drinks, so when we began developing this tequila with him, he was insistent that we keep it clean and natural, with no sugar or other additives–and that’s exactly what we did.”
