Jerry Jones has already gotten rid of Trey Lance. In fact, their long-time backup Cooper Rush also signed with the Ravens this offseason. And as of Dak Prescott, the man has been dealing with his season-ending injury since last time. So, if the Dallas Cowboys’s QB comes up as a starter, the man may be limited. That means the franchise needs a backup on an emergency basis. So, how about a rookie?

Yes, you heard it right! The NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported that “The #Cowboys may draft a QB to backup Dak Prescott. And that’s where it gets interesting.” Perhaps, it won’t come out as a good move! Now you must be thinking that it’s okay to draft a rookie and put him as a backup behind the QB1. You are absolutely correct. But the thing is – a rookie cannot likely help you win a Super Bowl (until you have Jayden Daniels like QB).

The Cowboys’s beat writer, Clarence Hill Jr, also pressed this question on X. Sharing a video of Rapoport where he stated that Jerry Jones’s team might be getting a new QB from the draft, Hill quashed the possibility. He expressed, “No chance the Cowboys are taking a qb in the second or third round. They have too many pressing needs and an urgency to win now.” That’s a blunt answer.

That’s true! After his all-in era, Jerry Jones is now focused on winning rather than keeping his roster. And for that, it doesn’t matter whether he finds a new player or moves ahead with the same squad. But going with a rookie in case of a potentially injured quarterback? Not a great idea!

In addition, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys have a couple of names to offer extensions – the most important being that of Micah Parsons. So, as Clarence Hill Jr. stated, the Cowboys are indeed “too many pressing needs” to work on at the moment. Then what next for them?

Just six months ago, Dak Prescott inked a record-shattering $60 million per year extension. However, the 31-year-old got stuck with a hamstring injury that ended his 2024 season. Now that he is set to recover from his surgery and return in 2025, he might be limited or face another injury.

After all, the NFL is the NFL. So, in that case, a rookie QB cannot guarantee a win. They needed a reliable quarterback at the time. But anyway, as per Rapoport, they could take someone like Quinn Ewers in the second round – if he’s still in there. However, with this experiment, one thing is clear: the future of America’s Team is still doubtful. And guess what? The owner’s other experiment could also come out as a disaster!

Is Jerry Jones risking the Cowboys' future by considering a rookie QB as Dak's backup?

Jerry Jones signed the Super Bowl champ!

Jerry Jones and the Cowboys just made a move, bringing in veteran WR Parris Campbell on a one-year deal. And to many, it seems a gamble, but a low-risk one. Campbell had so much promise coming out of Ohio State. But injuries? They just wrecked his early years. The result is: He barely played in his first three seasons.

Then, in 2022, he finally showed what he could do—63 catches, 623 yards, three touchdowns. Just when it seemed like he found his groove. But wait! Things fell apart again with the Giants. He appeared in 12 games, completing with just 20 catches for 104 yards on 27 targets.

Now, fresh off a Super Bowl win with the Eagles, Campbell is in Dallas. But Jerry Jones’s Cowboys aren’t handing him a roster spot for now. So, that means he has to earn it. He’ll be competing with younger guys like Jalen Tolbert and Jonathan Mingo.

If he still has some juice left, he could bring valuable experience. If not? This might be his last chance and a disastrous choice for Jones’s company!
