The Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning champions. Besides their game plays, their defense, or quarterback Patrick Mahomes, one of the significant factors of the Chiefs, lies within their strategies of choosing for their yearly roster. And thanks to Andy Reid for that!
Reid is known to hire some of the biggest future Hall of Famers like Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Therefore, it’s obvious that he takes time to think and analyze ahead of picking any free agent or a player from the draft. This time again, while many teams are signing some of the available good options, the Chiefs are silent. And NFL analyst Nick Wright supports this theory.

In a recent episode of First Things First, Nick Wright, Kevin Wildes, and Chris Broussard joined the show to talk about trading rumors and the Chiefs’ next move in the offseason. Backing the Chiefs’ offseason dealings, Wright expressed satisfaction with the Chiefs’ free agency moves so far. He mentioned, “Free agency thus far for the Chiefs literally could not have gone better. There’s not one contract. And I went through….list of the top 103 free agents, not all of them have signed. Obviously there was not a single one of those free agent deals of a team like the guy who went to a new team that I saw. I wish the Chiefs would have done that, not one.”
Wright discussed various tiers of wide receivers who have signed deals, including Michael Pitman, Gabe Davis, and Devonte Parker, but concluded that none were ideal for the Chiefs. He also highlighted available options at present for the Chiefs like Mike Williams, Tyler Boyd, Marquise Brown, and Calvin Ridley. Despite not signing any big names, he pointed out that the Chiefs could address their needs in the draft, especially considering the depth at the wide receiver.
Overall, he felt content with the Chiefs’ approach to free agency, and mentioned the possibility of using the franchise tag on Tyrann Mathieu if needed.
Although the trading part is not visible for the Chiefs currently, the extensions or cuts are still on for the Red Army. Patrick Mahomes recently saved some cap space for his team, and now Drue Tranquill has earned a spot, with his latest wish.

During free agency, players are attracted to the Chiefs because they have a chance to compete for a championship. Linebacker Drue Tranquill enjoyed his first year with the Chiefs so much that he decided to sign a new three-year contract with them. The contract is worth $19 million, with $12.5 million guaranteed, including a signing bonus of $4.5 million.

Now, Tranquill along with others, believes that improving the wide receiver position is crucial for the team. As per Marca, he “is begging free agent wideouts to join the team.” Tranquill mentioned two free agent WRs, Mike Williams and Marquise Brown, who could be valuable additions to the team. Despite their injury history, both players have shown their talent and productivity on the field.

So he thinks Williams, recently released by the Chargers, and free agent Brown could be a strong complement to each other, “if the Chiefs have enough cap space to pull it off.”
