Will Mahomes' Texas Tech triumph over Bakhtiari's Buffs, or is a surprise upset on the horizon?

Patrick Mahomes got a massive tribute from Texas Tech before the game with the CU Buffs began. The Kansas City Chiefs QB helped set up a major Adidas uniform deal for the players, after all. But while Patrick Mahomes is cheering for his alum to destroy Deion Sanders-led Colorado Buffaloes, there’s one fan on the opposite team who would have laid everything on the line to watch the Red Raiders lose.

That person is none other than Aaron Rodgers’s former teammate, David Bakhtiari. The Green Bay Packers offensive tackle is a Colorado alum. He took to X and gave the 3x Super Bowl winner an offer that he can’t refuse. Check out Bakhtiari’s post on X.

“Hey @PatrickMahomes, if your @TexasTechFB beat my @CUBuffsFootball, I’ll come to play left tackle for you,” the 3x Pro Bowl offensive tackle wrote on X. This message to Mahomes came when the game was in its finishing stages, so maybe Bakhtiari knew he had an upper hand on Mahomes. That was by the end of the third quarter (31-20).

As it happens, the Red Raiders QB threw for two touchdowns, completing 275 yards in the process. On the other hand, Shedeur Sanders one-upped him with his 291-yard, 3-touchdown performance. It’s crazy to see how the Red Raiders blew a 13-point lead after an early head start. Let’s talk about the game a little bit.

The Buffs were scoreless in the first quarter of the game but picked the momentum in the second quarter when Sanders threw a 23-yard pass to LaJohntay Wester after which, Alejandro Mata scored a 25-yard FG, but the Buffs still trailed 13-10. The Colorado team had their pistons firing with a max explosion as the third quarter began.

Will Mahomes' Texas Tech triumph over Bakhtiari's Buffs, or is a surprise upset on the horizon?

Have an interesting take?

Shedeur Sanders scored a 7-yard rushing TD and threw two TD passes in Q3. One of his TD passes went to Will Sheppard and the other to Travis Hunter. The 4 quarter began with Mata making a 33-yard FG. Then, Behren Morton replied to it with his 21-yard pass to Jalin Conyers. The game was 27-34 at this point and the Red Raiders would still have been in the game if it weren’t for Shilo Sanders’ 6-yard fumble return. The four quarters culminated in 27-41 in Buffs favor.

So, it seems like Bakhtiari won’t be joining the Kansas City Chiefs after all. But that friendly challenge might have given football fans something to look forward to, no matter how far-fetched of a possibility it was. Despite losing the game, the Red Raiders paid tribute to Patrick Mahomes for everything he’s done to help his alum.

Patrick Mahomes just made history

Have you seen a college team wear an NFL athlete’s brand on the field? It wasn’t true, until the Red Raiders-Buffs game. Texas Tech players wore a “Mahomes Strategy” uniform with his signature “Gladiator” logo on it. This game against the Buffs gave the Red Raiders an opportunity to debut this uniform.

“Seeing my own logo on the Texas Tech uniform I put so much blood, sweat, and tears in is one of the most meaningful off-field accomplishments of my career,” Mahomes said in an Adidas press release. “I want to thank the three-stripe family for giving me this one-of-a-kind opportunity.”

But it’s not only for the players. Fans can also own a piece of Mahomes’s latest creation with the sports giant. The Texas Tech x Patrick Mahomes collection includes a Dark Grey quarter-zip, fleece hoodie, and a new colorway of Ultraboost 5x—all featuring Mahomes’ Gladiator logo.

The Texas Tech students held a huge Patrick Mahomes banner. It showed the QB in the Mahomes Strategy uniform with a tagline that said, “It’s showtime.” Mahomes still seems to embody that mentality when he steps on the field.
