“Is it a finished product? No, but we’ve got a lot of faith that he’s going to be our franchise quarterback because of (his) abilities and the person he is,” the Colts HC stated. HC Shane Steichen reinstated Anthony Richardson as QB1 after a 16-day benching, reversing course for the 2023 No. 4 pick. And guess what, Richardson is back in the building!
The Head Coach stated his analysis about the 22-year-old, “It’s the attention to detail in everything he does. From the classrooms to the walk-throughs to practice to the weight room, all those little things — it’s just gotta be at a higher standard. Over the last two weeks, he’s made strides in those areas, big-time strides becoming a pro’s pro.” What HC Shane said about the 6-foot-4 QB is self-explanatory. It’s something more than improving the standards of his play on the field or in practice.

Richardson himself confessed, “It just showed I’m willing to be a pro. I’m willing to sacrifice anything that I need to do for the team”. Though he was replaced as a starting QB by Joe Flacco, he also could not satisfy HC’s expectations; the Colts have suffered losses in the past two weeks against the Bills and the Vikings. Meanwhile, jersey No. 5 stated he is “thankful” to the franchise for believing in him. But, now that Steichen figured out the major flaws the QB has, maybe there’ll be hope for the franchise.

But man, you should watch your mouth when you’re talking from the NFL podium! The little things the HC is talking about can surely uplift Richardson’s career. But good to see he is “willing to sacrifice anything“.
Anthony Richardson: The Colts QB1 for the rest of the season
The 244 lb will be the starting quarterback for the upcoming game on November 17 against the Jets. Including this game, the Colts should go through 7 games to make or break this year’s playoffs. With a record of 4-6, the Indianapolis Colts stand 2nd in the AFC South division at the end of week 10.

If you look at the stats of the jersey No. 5, his starting record is 3-3. With a horrible completion percentage (CMP%) of 44.4%, he has managed 4 touchdowns covering 958 passing yards. Even if Steichen states Richardson’s growth as “big-time strides,” his QBR rating stops at 37.6. Comparatively, the competitors in the AFC South have their QB performing decently in CMP% (the Texans’ QB- 62.9%, the Titans’ QB 68.2%, and the Jaguars’ QB- 61.3 %).
As the HC himself believed in jersey No. 5, the QB’s performance and time will tell if stands out or not. These ‘big-time strides’ should be in the right direction for the QB to perform with all his emotions and mindfulness and not say unnecessary things. Hope he has recovered from the ‘tiredness’.
