After repetitive losses, the on-field ‘Prime Time’ effect has taken hits for the Colorado Buffaloes in recent weeks. The Colorado Buffaloes finished their 2023 season with a 4-8 record and even fell out of the top 25 in the national rankings in the AP and Coaches polls. But outside the gridiron, Coach Prime remains as impactful as ever. And one of his biggest fans is none other than neighboring Broncos‘ QB, Russell Wilson.

Deion Sanders has been credited with transforming the Buffaloes’ football program and adding life to the campus. He was named Sports Illustrated Person of the Year on November 30. Now, as he received the award in person, Wilson celebrated this achievement again, just one month after paying his hero a Halloween tribute.

For his direct and indirect contributions to the Buffaloes and the University of Colorado, Coach Prime Deion Sanders was “an easy choice” for the award, said Stephen Cannella, editor-in-chief of Sports Illustrated.

Some of those contributions include turning around the team’s 1-11 win-loss record from 2022, selling out season tickets for the first time in the history of Colorado Buffs, increasing merchandise sales by 700 %, and getting 800,000 new followers on Instagram for Colorado.

After being named as the latest recipient of the award back in November, Sanders received it in person on Thursday. Sharing the original post from SI, Russell Wilson congratulated the Pro Football Hall of Famer on the feat. He shared the post on his Instagram story on Thursday, with a four-word-caption that read: “Changing the game, AGAIN!💪🏾

Despite his widespread impact, the season hasn’t been great for the Buffaloes as they lost out on the playoffs after a 7-game losing streak. But Wilson couldn’t care less. He has always looked at the former NFL cornerback in high regard, and it was evident last month when the quarterback decided to dress up as Coach Prime.

On October 31, the Broncos QB shared a post of himself in a white Coach Prime hoodie, with ‘Prime’ printed on it in golden color. He also wore a black cowboy hat and golden sunglasses, just like Sanders does often during his games. The only noticeable difference was the diamond number ‘3’ pendant around his neck, where the coach usually wears a catholic cross or a game whistle.

Wilson himself is on a grind this season. After going 1-5 in the season, he went on a full ‘Mr. Comeback’ mode to bring the Broncos back from the grave and to the playoff contention. Unlike Coach Prime, the season isn’t over for him, so despite their recent loss against the young sensation CJ Stroud‘s Texans, he isn’t giving up.

The Broncos next face the Chargers on Sunday, December 10. And just like every other game this season, this one is a must-win for Wilson and Co. as well. Maybe running a Coach Prime motivational speech in his head would help him achieve that feat. We will know by the weekend.
