Clyde Edwards-Helaire is back with his home team for another year! After his draft in 2020 by the Kansas City Chiefs, the running back has finished his rookie contract and is set to return for the upcoming season. After getting engaged and planning his wedding in the offseason, the 24-year-old has another happy news.

The 32nd overall pick by the Chiefs became the youngest RB in the league’s history at 21 after starter Damien Williams opted out in the pandemic-hit 2020. In his next two seasons, Edwards-Helaire struggled with inconsistencies primarily due to his injuries. However, he returned in full force in 2023 to help in the team’s second consecutive Super Bowl win.

The veteran had five simple words on his return to the Chiefs, aligning with the Chiefs Kindgom’s hopes of a third win at the big game. He wrote “Lets Glyde to The 3Peat!!!” along with red and golden heart emojis on X.

Having entered the free agency this year, the 24-year-old spoke to the reporters about his decision to rejoin his previous home. “Obviously, that decision was to come back home to the Chiefs and keep things going in a direction, that was tending in a positive direction,” he said, per KMBC. Apart from his running and catching abilities, a little extra boost from a star teammate secured the veteran’s return to the Chiefs.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire talks about “camaraderie” with Travis Kelce

Getting drafted as a 21-year-old in one of the world’s biggest leagues can be daunting. But Edward-Helaire had one player right by his side during his journey. The veteran mentioned Travis Kelce as his sturdy pillar of support after his return to Kansas City and talked about how the tight end encouraged him through thick and thin.

“Personal level, from football to on a day-to-day basis, he’s someone that’s been in my corner and picked me up from my lowest of lows. And then when I was on my highest of highs, just being there, trying to put a rocket on my back. So you just have that camaraderie,” said the running back, as per The Kansas City Star.

Kelce had also applauded the touchdown catch by “Good Brother Clyde” in the Chiefs’ game against the Patriots in his podcast with brother Jason, New Heights. He said, “I had a front-row seat to this catch. If you guys didn’t see me out there getting locked up in the corner watching Clyde, just go up and Moss, this dude. He was floating in the air for about what felt like five seconds. In my head, I was like, “Get down! Get down! Get down before he pushes you out!” I just went f***ing nuts… Clyde coming up with one of the best catches of the season so far.”
