The Chiefs will officially be defending their Super Bowl title after becoming the first team to secure a playoff berth this season. Their tense 19-17 win over the Raiders wasn’t pretty but as they have done all season, the champions found a way to win. The Raiders didn’t cover themselves in glory either after a botched snap attempt with seconds left crushed their chances of a win. While both the teams failed to light up the Arrowfield, the wife of the Chiefs’ CEO shared her enthusiasm for Kansas City’s lighting tradition.

It’s officially the holiday season on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. On Thanksgiving night, Clark Hunt and his wife Tavia flipped the giant switch to illuminate the thousands of lights on the Plaza in a nearly century-old tradition dating back to 1930, when the very first Plaza Lighting Ceremony happened. During the ceremony, people from the city gather with their families to mark the occasion.

On Saturday, Tavia shared a video on her Instagram story that displayed the Plaza Lights tradition in all its glory. In the video, we see the city lit up in bright lights capturing the beginning of the holiday festivities. She captioned the post, “Don’t miss the Plaza lights!” urging people to uphold the 95-year tradition.

Every year after the Labor Day, the crews begin putting up the lights. They begin hanging the strands of thousands of glimmering jewel-colored lights. Now that the Plaza is lit up, the lights will turn on every night starting at 5 p.m. and will stay on until 3 a.m. People in the city and those visiting will have until January 12, 2025, to check them out.

Multiple performances led up to the main event before Clark and Tavia Hunt flipped the switch. Cappella group Vocalocity performed “Bring me Love”, while singer Zae Romeo entertained the fans with “What Child is This.” There were also performances by KC A Capella, Monica’s School of Dance, and Quixotic among others.

During the ceremony, Clark Hunt also talked about the start to the Chiefs’ season which has seen them go full throttle in pursuit of a 3-peat. “The Chiefs have gotten off to a great start and we are so proud of Coach Reid, Patrick, Travis, and all their teammates for the job they’ve done to get us to this point. However, there is a lot of football left, lot of season still to be played,” he said.

It’s clear that Hunt has his eyes on the prize but as he pointed out there is a lot left in the season and even though the Chiefs are into the playoffs, some issues remain for Andy Reid to address.

Offensive problems remain for the Chiefs despite win

In their last game against the Raiders, the Chiefs did what they are known to do the best. They edged out the Raiders with a 19-17 win in the Black Friday showdown and gave the perfect Thanksgiving gift to their fans and family. However, the problems with the offense don’t seem to be improving.

Inefficiencies in the red zone remain. An overall disjointed offense left Mahomes frustrated for most of the afternoon. The QB was continuously under pressure and was sacked five times. Despite this, Patrick Mahomes made franchise history as surpassed Len Dawson for most passing touchdowns with a second-quarter pass to Justin Watson, giving him 238 for his career,

For the Raiders, their rookie tight end Brock Bowers completely stole the show. He racked up 140 receiving yards and a touchdown. His explosive plays helped in keeping the game competitive but it all ended in a loss for the team. The Raiders were close to upsetting the Chiefs when they moved into goal-field range. One good play would have handed them an unlikely win, but they fumbled it badly.

Jackson Powers-Johnson snapped to an unaware quarterback Aidan O’Connell in shotgun as the ball bounced off his upper right arm. The Chiefs’ linebacker and others fell on the ball and after a long conference between the officials, they ruled the Chiefs had recovered the fumble and the game was over.
