Be careful what you wish for, ChargersSummary of the first wild card game – the LA wanted Houston, but what they got was a reality check. Well, that wasn’t the postseason start anyone saw coming. The Chargers surely got up the matchup they wanted. But the results? Not exactly what they had in mind. Trailed by just four points heading into the half-time and boom, the Houston Texans outscored Justin Herbert and Co. by 32-12 at the end of the game.

You can’t pick your opponents, but sometimes they pick you, and Herbert couldn’t agree more. Now, CJ Stroud’s teammate won’t leave a chance to make you remember this loss. Right after the game, the Texans’ defensive end, Danielle Hunter, along with Safety M.J. Stewart, were seen mocking the Chargers on the field.

“Aye some buy week for them,” that’s what Hunter said. If being honest, it pretty much justifies their reaction. See, before the beginning of the postseason, Justin Herbert and Co. wanted to play the Texans in the wild-card round. And here we are, as the Texans had the final laugh. Honestly, when the Chargers secured a playoff berth in week 17 following a win over the Patriots, Herbert never thought of such an ending. But as they say, ‘reality often doesn’t live up to the expectations’. That’s what the Chargers case was yesterday after that disastrous loss in the wild-card round.

Well, in the case of the QB, this loss seems quite personal. After having his career-best regular season under coach Harbaugh, the QB had a final strike that he won’t easily forget. Herbert was intercepted four times, two of which were the drops from his wide receivers. He threw more interceptions than his entire regular season combined in this game. And that wasn’t all from his side. Cheers to the Texans’ defense as they sacked Herbert two times just near the start of the fourth quarter.

Speaking of which, the Texans’ defense excelled throughout the game and thrashed the Chargers out of the park. The Houston team’s CB, Derek Stingley Jr., caught two of the interceptions and returned for a touchdown. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound.

However, Herbert took the blame for the disastrous loss to the Texans. And why wouldn’t he? I mean, the guy chose the worst day to show this gameplay. “I let the team down,” Herbert said after the game. “… You can’t turn the ball over like that and expect to win. … I just have to be better.” Though these words hit a little harder after a bitter loss, the head coach had some relieving message for the QB.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Chargers underestimate the Texans, or was it just a bad day for Herbert?

Head coach Jim Harbaugh is not one to refrain from praising his quarterback after a loss. Although this loss was a costly one, Harbaugh seems to believe that one game isn’t enough to define your star player’s potential. True, in some cases—unless, of course, you’re playing a game to enter the playoffs, and the pressure’s on.

After the game, coach Harbaugh called his QB a “complete beast.” A two-word review of how Herbert had performed in the wild-card game. With his first season with this Los Angeles team, Harbaugh seems to be the biggest fan of Herbert. Before entering the postseason, the 26-year-old QB threw 3,840 yards with 23 touchdowns against his name.

Well, if we take his 4 interceptions and 2 sacks out of the game, the guy threw for 242 yards and racked up 1 touchdown. Turns out the head coach’s first season with the Chargers didn’t exactly end getting the last laugh with his QB, but there’s no denying that Herbert was indeed a beast throughout the season.

Despite a poor performance from Herbert, the head coach himself took all the blame after the loss to the Texans. “It’s tough, I let the team down,” Harbaugh said. “I put the team into jeopardy.”Tough position with all those turnovers.” That said, Justin Herbert’s career-best season wrapped up after this disastrous loss.
