If CJ Stroud missed anyone in their divisional game against the Chiefs, it had to be their receiver Stefon Diggs. Playing in his 2nd divisional game in his 2nd year, the Texans quarterback couldn’t find enough men to pass the ball. While the pockets protection totally failed, the Chiefs capitalized and sacked him 8 times for 58 yards. They have been missing the WR since the week 8 game against the Colts after the torn ACL forced him to miss the entire season. There is no clarity about the receiver’s future.
Post the divisional loss, the QB praised his teammates, even those who were out of the team. He revealed his stance on Diggs and said, “Stef will be back on the field soon and hopefully it’s with us.” Now that is a big question. He arrived at the franchise on a 1-year deal from the Bills.

In April 2022, Stefon Diggs signed a 4-year $96 million contract extension with the receiver. However, the Texans played it smart and restructured the remaining 2 year deal into a 1-year $22.52 million deal. It set him up to enter an unrestricted free agency in 2025. So, the 31-year-old came in with a mindset to perform at his best level.
He started all 8 games this year, achieving 47 receptions for 496 receiving yards with 3 touchdowns. He also had 1 touchdown with 8 rushing yards. So, the Texans haven’t revealed anything about the WR’s future at the franchise. While CJ Stroud hoped that they would play again. But a lot of things will be discussed before anything concrete comes on paper.
Will the Texans take the risk? Whether they keep him or not, the WR will not be worried. He has always lived his life carefree.

“I believe in alignment. I’m everywhere I’m supposed to be when I’m supposed to be there,” said the receiver in a GQ interview when he arrived at the Texans. It reveals his mindset whenever the rumor mill churns his potential destinations. Before 2024, he had 6 consecutive seasons with 1000+ receiving yards. It would have been the same story if he didn’t get injured.
Stefon Diggs is a difference maker. The Texans won 6 of 8 games he played in. And lost 5 of 9 games, he wasn’t available. And confidence reflects in his attitude towards these trades as well. He mentioned that none of the teams have traded because of non-performance issues. It has happened whenever he has forced the franchises to level up for the ultimate prize he wants to win, the Super Bowl!

So far, the 4 times Pro Bowl hasn’t won the trophy even once. So, if the Texans don’t talk to him, he would like to go to any team that would give him a team ready for the big prize. It would be a fitting tribute to his 10-year sting in the league.
