Jordan Love’s comeback didn’t turn out well for the Packers. The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Pack 31-29. Ah, it broke hearts! The Packers struggled on other fronts too. Wide receiver Christian Watson and Defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt suffered ankle injuries and were ruled out of the game. Here’s an update on that. A positive one!
NFL Insider Ian Rapoport recently tweeted that the WR hasn’t fractured his left ankle. But he has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain. He might get put on the Injured Reserve (IR) List, getting out of action for 4 weeks. Though Christian Watson himself is struggling this season with only 5 receptions for 80 yards and 1 touchdown in 4 games, the team would be happy to have him fit.

No fracture for Christian Watson, but a high-ankle sprain that could land him on Injured Reserve. https://t.co/hMuZszb2LS

Had Christian Watson been on the field for all 4 quarters, the result might have been different. In the 2nd quarter, linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill intercepted him on a Jordan Love pass. Reeling in pain in his left leg, the medical team first attended to check his leg, but later, he stood up and went to the injury tent. He later went to the locker room and was ruled out of the game.
When Head Coach Matt LaFleur talked to the receiver after the game, he told the coach that he was only expecting a sprain. And that’s what happened. Before that, he couldn’t do much against the Vikings and went without any catch and yard. But the team would be happy he avoided what looked like a serious injury.

Christian Watson’s injury history
The WR missed major game time because of multiple injuries in his rookie year (2022). He suffered a knee tear which required a minor surgery. In September 2022, Watson missed a week 1 game because of a hamstring pull. Later, he aggravated the injury in week 5 and missed action for the next 2 weeks.

The next year (2023) also had the same story. At the end of the training camp, Christian Watson suffered a strain in his hamstring and didn’t play in the first 3 games of the season. In December, he injured his hamstring again in week 13 against the Chiefs and missed the remaining games.
This year also started on a similar note with a bruised knee in the training camp. While we await more details on the WR’s injury, the times are indeed challenging for the Packers.
