The Niners fans, after suffering heartbreak in Super Bowl LVIII, were hoping for a win this year. But the Madden curse got in the way -or at least, that’s one way to look at it. Before the season started, Christian McCaffrey appeared on the Madden cover; as per a theory, any player who appears on the Madden cover is destined for a disappointingly bad season. However, we’ve got good news for Niners and McCaffrey fans!
The RB shared another update on his Instagram on Saturday. Christian is in his recovery phase, making moves for a strong comeback. It looks like he’s got his eyes on winning the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. The entire Niners team needs a comeback, especially after their heartbreaking Super Bowl LVIII loss to the Chiefs. And for that, they need to have McCaffrey by their side. The RB is working his way back to be on the gridiron this coming season. On Saturday, he shared a couple of photos on Instagram from his recovery phase, and things are looking quite positive.

The Niners star shared a couple of pictures from the gym and a few snowy shots. Well, looks like Christian knows a thing or two about keeping his profile aesthetic as well. And there’s one picture that will make everyone go ‘Aww!‘. It’s a shot of McCaffrey with his dog, Oliver Sprinkles.
It’s been a tough season for the Stanford alum. Christian signed an extension with the Niners last March worth $38 million, locking him in with the team until 2027. But, he already missed the entire 2024 season while dealing with calf and Achilles’ injuries. In the middle of the season, he even had to travel to Germany to visit an Achilles specialist. He returned and played a few games, only to be sidelined again due to a PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) injury.
Hopefully, he’ll finally grace the gridiron again with his plays in the coming season. On the other hand, a hockey game caught McCaffrey’s attention…

Christian McCaffrey’s comment stirs controversy
Millions watched Canada’s loud triumph in the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, and Canadians have been going gaga over it. And why shouldn’t they be? They brought home the championship trophy. Christian McCaffrey was watching it too, cheering -of course, for Team USA. But the RB had to take a heartbreak as Team USA fell short against Canada.
Now, had it been the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, Team USA might have had another shot at redemption. But in the 4 Nations Face-Off, it’s a single-elimination format -one game, one chance. After Team USA’s heartbreaking loss to Canada, the Niners RB shared his thoughts on the format. McCaffrey took to his Instagram and X, posting, “Best of 3?” probably, suggesting that a series-style format would be fairer. However, his comment didn’t sit well with many fans, sparking debates online.
The Niners star was blasted in the comments for voicing his opinion. The loss must have stung Christian, given that he knows exactly how it feels to reach the finals only to see the championship dream slip away. That’s likely why he mentioned a rematch.

However, Canadian fans didn’t hold back, flooding his mentions with criticism and trolling. On the other hand, McCaffrey’s supporters—along with other football fans—clapped back, pointing out that Canada hasn’t won any major football championships.
In short, it turned into a full-blown internet war.
