Chris Jones gets secured back to the Chiefs with a massive contract! Some time ago, Andy Reid did a press run and appeared on the Colin Cowherd show to talk about his viral Super Bowl moment with Chris Jones. The premise of the photo was Reid motivating the DT to get up and play after he got tired. Reid spoke in cryptic terms about the Chiefs retaining the defensive star and hence tensions started surrounding the Chiefs’ admirers.
However, with the moment having arrived, confirmation has reached that the Chiefs will maintain their defensive prowess. Jones just signed a deal for five years with the side and made himself the highest-paid DT in the league. His teammate and star QB Patrick Mahomes is excited by the prospect of Jones staying with the Kansas City Chiefs, expressing the same through a post on X.

Patrick Mahomes was quick to catch up on his teammate as he replied in support of Jones with a simple smiling emoji. While the response seems brief, it appears enough to reflect the kind of relief Mahomes must be feeling with the continuation of Chris Jones on his side.

The news was brought to light by Ian Rapoport on X as he initially wrote, “The #Chiefs and All-Pro DT Chris Jones have a blockbuster deal to keep him in KC, per his agents @KatzBrosSports. The top free agent is off the market and a huge move for the champs. 🏆”
He later retweeted, “He gets a 5-year deal that includes $95M practically guaranteed. The highest paid DT.” The finer details of his contract are not revealed to the public as of now but all that can be said is that with Jones signing such a gigantic deal, the Kansas City team would be in hopes of expecting even greater things from the DT.

Ian Rapoport followed up with his last two posts. He pointed out that Jones is set to make about $35M yearly. All we know is the fact that Jones is getting $95M in guaranteed money and the deal is done based on “good faith.”
Chris Jones’ 5-year deal should make him the NFL’s highest-paid DT at around $32M per year. The first $95M or so are essentially guaranteed, and the final numbers are still being worked out. But a mammoth deal for a mammoth defender as a result of good-faith negotiations. https://t.co/w2Xub4OpR0

Last year, when the Chiefs didn’t get the extension done on time, the DT held out from being a participant in practice till week 8. Safe to say that nothing like that might happen now. As the saying goes, “When it rains, it pours,” well, it seems true in the case of Chris Jones.
