After spending 8 years with the Chiefs, Chris Jones is set to become a free agent soon. Last year when this happened, Jones missed a major chunk of practice camp because the deal he wasn’t getting the deal he wanted from the Chiefs. Later, the Kansas City Chiefs changed their mind and signed him to a 1-year $19.5 million contract.
It’s déjà vu all over again after he helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl one more time. He recently posted something on X that had Rich Eisen scratching his head. He needed answers and who better to provide them than the Chiefs Head Honcho Andy Reid himself? Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes understands what Jones brings to the team and hopes for the best.
The 29-year-old Defensive Tackle recently posted a picture on X captioned, “KC……” and it shows the viral photo of Andy Reid and Chris Jones. Reid is sitting on top of Chris Jones as if he’s asking him to get up. Jones in his natural element seems to be laughing at whatever was going on at the moment. This picture got the host’s attention, and he needed more clarification from Reid.

During his appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Reid explained how Chris Jones helped the team get the 3 down at a very crucial moment. By that time, the Chiefs DT was exhausted, and the game went to overtime. Reid explained that he was pushing Jones to get up and play for the remaining 1:50.
The Kansas City Chiefs HC mentioned that he was “proud of him [Jones] for taking that.” Upon learning how Chris Jones was instrumental in taking Purdy down and getting the Chiefs that “3 down moment” Eisen jokingly said, “I’d jump on him too.”
Eisen addressed Jones’ free agency status. Reid mentioned that Brett Veach and his people are working on cutting a deal with Jones. “I can’t give you anything because I don’t have a whole lot. I’ve been doing these media things so maybe something is going better than I think it is.”

Signing Chris Jones may be a top priority for the Chiefs because he is instrumental to Mahomes’ success as well. He let it know last year when the Chiefs and Jones were in a contractual crunch.
Patrick Mahomes roots for Jones
Chris Jones stayed absent from the Chiefs games and training sessions till week 8 of the last season. He mentioned that he had no intentions of backing away from his holdout from the Chiefs. At this point, he was at the end of his $80 million deal with the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes weighed in on the situation.

Mahomes too weighed on the situation in August 2023. “I know how much Chris loves the Chiefs. I just try to stay out of it and tell Chris I love him,” the Chiefs’ quarterback expressed in an interview with The Athletic’s Nate Taylor. Mahomes continued,“We know he’s preparing himself. … I don’t think anyone expected him to be out this long. He’s a vital part of this organization.
Thankfully, the Chiefs reinstated Jones, and the excitement was visible in the athlete’s statement. In a Sept. 13 interview Jones said, “I’m super pleased with how it turned out,” and added, “I’m back in the building. I’m excited to be back, thankful for the organization. They (were) able to boost my salary up to make up for the fines and everything. I’m super grateful for that.”

But again, until there are no official reports, fans must take this cryptic post with a grain of salt. Jones, who is a regular at social media and press conferences, signed back with the Chiefs last year. Hopefully, it doesn’t come to Chris Jones holding out again and the Chiefs sign him as soon as possible.
