Here we go again – Aaron Rodgers is back! And he is doing exactly what he does best: keeping NFL teams on read and handling business like a full-blown diva. This time, he’s reportedly ghosting the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants. But before you roll your eyes at another Rodgers saga, Super Bowl champ Chris Canty has stepped in with some insider scoop that might just change the narrative.

Chris Canty, former NFL defensive end and now sports analyst, discussed the whole QB limbo on the Unsportsmanlike podcast with Michelle Smallmon and Evan Cohen. The Steelers who are a no-nonsense kind of a franchise, aren’t rolling out the red carpet for Rodgers. As Cameron Hayward made it clear, he’s not here for any “darkness retreat.” When Cam was asked about how he would pitch Pittsburgh to Rodgers, he spoke like a true Steeler, “I ain’t doing that darkness retreat. I don’t mean any of that crap. Like, either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. That’s simple. That’s the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that’s the recruiting pitch.”

I mean, as Michelle said – slow clap for Cam Hayward, because someone finally said what everyone else is feeling at the moment. Even Cohen asked Canty if the Steelers locker room was already fed up with Rodgers’ classic decision-making process. To which Canty defended Rodgers, saying, “Yes, because he’s put—and I’m not blaming Aaron Rodgers for this, because he is entitled to take his time, no doubt—but he is putting them at a competitive disadvantage.”

Rodgers’ indecision is actually messing with the Steelers’ game plan for this season. The team has re-signed Mason Rudolph on a two-year contract. But until Rodger decides he is in or out, the Steelers are stuck playing the waiting game instead of focusing on their next move.

But then it was Michelle who hit Canty with the real question – putting him in the shoes of the Steelers. “I am thinking about Chris Canty captain of a team in a locker room and a guy like Aaron Rodgers, his production on the Field last year and everything he brings to the team, is essentially saying, ‘eh! Maybe, if I can’t get this other opportunity. Maybe I’ll consider you but you are not my top option. How would you take that as a player?”

To which Canty pointed out how the players feel when a player like Aaron Rodgers treats them like a backup option, “I’m gonna feel a way. There is a certain level of professional pride that every player has, and you always wanna look at your situation favorably. And for someone to tell you, ‘Yeah, I don’t know about what you guys got going on,’ especially a proud franchise like Pittsburgh with six Lombardis? I could understand why players would be off-put by what Aaron Rodgers is doing.”

And he’s got a point. The Steelers aren’t some struggling team desperate for a QB. They have built a reputation on stability – making it to the playoffs 10 times in the last 14 seasons. So, when Rodgers treats them like a backup option – it stings. However, Canty acknowledged why Rodgers is taking his sweet time with the decision. At 41, he has every reason to decide whether he wants to play or not. He’s a four-time MVP and a Super Bowl champ.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Aaron Rodgers' diva behavior hurting the Steelers' chances this season, or is he worth the wait?

Have an interesting take?

So, while the Steelers, Giants, and Vikings are sitting there like kids who finished their test early and are waiting for Rodgers to finally submit his paper. While everyone else in the league has already figured out who their quarterback would be. These teams? Stuck in limbo. And there is another player – a veteran QB who is setting the stage for his next move but with less drama.

Where will Russell Wilson land next?

While Aaron Rodgers is out there giving teams commitment issues – like a situationship gone wrong. Russell Wilson seems to have settled down and is dropping hints of where he is headed next. And, plot twist: It has something to do with the Yankees.

Let’s rewind for a second. In 2018, Russell was a part of the Yankees for just a minute – even wearing the pinstripes for the Spring Training. But that turned out to be more of a PR Stunt. Fast forward to this season, he posted a picture of his stepson, Future, rocking a Yankees uniform. A cute family moment, right? Maybe. But the Giants fans are taking this quite optimistically and wondering if Russ wants to choose the Giants as his next destination.

And even the Giants would welcome him with open arms as the $160 million contract with Daniel Jones looks like an expensive mistake with each passing season. He struggled with injuries, and the Giants offense was a disaster last season with a 3-14 record. So, Russell Wilson would be a good option as a capable bridge QB. But the question is – will he want to be a bridge QB until they draft someone else? On this, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted: “He’s [Wilson] in a position where [he] can and is ready to sign somewhere. But he appears to be the backup No. 2 option in both Pittsburgh and New York.”

So, at this point, Aaron Rodgers is coming out as that friend who says yes to a plan and then doesn’t show up. Meanwhile, Russell is dropping cryptic clues about his next move. But one thing seems clear – that he is ready to sign. The only problem? He’s still a backup plan. Both the players are basically waiting for the best deal that meets their demands. But we? We are here for the drama.
