It’s Chris Boswell’s world and we’re just living in it. No, we’re not the ones saying it, but the NFL itself, after the placekicker just proved why he’s an elite. In the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 18-16 Week 11 victory against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Boswell was undeniably the star of the show with six field goals on six tries. And soon enough—as expected—the community gathered to applaud his success in the game. But before we get to that part…
The 33-year-old is the first player in NFL history with six field goals made in three separate career games. This season, too, he’s made a league-high 29 (of 30 attempted) field goals, and hit all 20 extra points. But that’s not all…He also became “the first Steelers kicker to hit three field goals of 50 plus yards when he did so against the Falcons, and now is the only player to have done it twice as well”, as per the team’s official website. Boswell connected from 32, 52, 32, 57, 27 and 50 yards to secure the win for the Steelers. But if you thought he was anything but humble about his achievements, you’re wrong!
After the game, the player had quipped, “I’m just here to do my job, and we needed six today. We didn’t need any last week. As long as we get the (win), who cares about the rest?” Way to be humble, but we do care, and so does the league, as they took to Instagram on November 20 to announce him as the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, earning him goodwill from the community as well as the team.

Steelers’ QB Russell Wilson shared the league’s post on his Instagram Story tagging Boswell, and even proclaimed his teammate as the “Best in the World!!!” This is the fourth such honor the placekicker has received in his career—he won it in Week 6 of the 2015 season, Week 13 of the 2017 season and Week 1 this year. He also won AFC Special Teams Player of the Month in December/January in 2015, and in September and October this year.
Having said that, after their win on Sunday, the former Denver Broncos player had also appreciated Boswell, saying, “When you have so many great players, obviously, Boz, he’s always been one of the best in the game, and he showed that again today, just how clutch he is in so many crucial moments. When you really think about it, championship games, championship moments, they come down to crucial kicks like that a lot, and when you’ve got a guy that you can trust and know that he’s going to have no fear, we just believe in him.
“He works at it. There’s no surprise. It’s not shocking because he works at it every day, and he loves it, and he’s a great teammate, he’s a great leader. He’s composed. He’s confident. He’s everything you want him to be. He’s got quarterback in him. He’s got grit. He’s got guts. I think that’s a huge thing to have a guy like that kicking the ball for us.” Notably, since joining the Steelers in 2015, Boswell is 260-295 on field goal attempts (88.1%).

Now, that’s a special trust that Chris Boswell has developed for himself in Russell Wilson’s heart. But not only the QB, even coach Mike Tomlin is happy to have his special kicker on his team.
Mike Tomlin takes a hilarious dig at his player
After Chris Boswell won the “AFC Special Teams Player of the Week” award in Week 1, it was speculated that he would be awarded again. And that’s what happened! Therefore, ahead of this win, head coach Mike Tomlin already felt fed up to hear that. While speaking to the media, Tomlin jokingly said, “I love Boz, and I’m tired of him getting player of the week. He’ll probably get Player of the Week again this week. He is deserving of it, but it reminds us of our warts. It reminds us of the work that we need to do. But no doubt I’m thankful that he’s on our team.”
In a post-game press conference on Monday, the coach had also mentioned, “What can you say about Chris Boswell in 2024 that hadn’t been written or said. He’s been everything that we need him to be. He is performing at an extremely high level and we’re extremely comfortable in calling upon him in just about any circumstances. It’s just been special. And to do what he’s done, obviously with a change at holder in the middle of the thing, is doubly impressive.”
