Can Joe Burrow really taint Patrick Mahomes' legacy, or is Mahomes untouchable?

The 2024 season is about to begin! That means, the NFL world will be back to the zest and thrill from September 5, 2024. And as the first matchup will be between last year’s AFC championship rivals, Patrick Mahomes and company appear ready to take on the Ravens and rub another victory in their face. However, before the matchup, Mahomes once again stumbled upon an unfortunate fate similar to last year.

Ahead of the 2023 season, Joe Burrow took away Mahomes’ spotlight after signing a monster $275 million deal with the Bengals. All the NFL world started talking about Burrow instead of Mahomes’ first game of that year. Now once again, repeating a similar fate, this time the quarterback’s spotlight is taken away by none other than Chiefs and Mahomes’ superfan, who is likely to be sentenced this Thursday.

Do you remember that distinguished Chiefs’ fan, who gained popularity in 2022 by being dressed up as a wolf, while attending many Kansas City Chiefs’ games? Yes! The fan, Xavier Babudar, “who gained a huge following on social media under the name Chiefsaholic,” faced serious charges for allegedly being involved in a series of robberies and attempted robberies in 2022 and 2023.

And now, this disgraced superfan will finally be receiving his punishment on a very important day. Although it was clear that Babudar was going to be sentenced soon for his deeds, the time wasn’t revealed. However, now, according to MLFootball on X, “#Chiefs superfan ChiefsAholic & convicted bank robber Xavier Babudar is being sentenced tomorrow in a KC courtroom, just hours before his favorite team kicks off the new season.”

The 30-year-old Xavier Babudar, who was allegedly involved “in connection with a string of robberies or attempted robberies of nearly a dozen banks and credit unions across seven states,” is going to be sentenced on Thursday, September 5, 2024, in the federal court. In addition to that, the MLFootball post also hinted at Babudar’s punishment tenure, saying that he could be sentenced “for up to 20 years.

Until then, it’s confirmed that Babudar won’t be able to attend his favorite team, Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs’ Week 1 matchup against Lamar Jackson’s Ravens, which is scheduled to kick off on the same day at 8.20 pm (ET) in Arrowhead Stadium. Being a great fan of Mahomes and the Chiefs, it is likely a double trouble for ChiefsAHolic.

Poverty made Xavier Babudar commit these robberies

Xavier Babudar, once known as the passionate Chiefs superfan “ChiefsAholic,” fell from grace in a shocking way! Since 2018, Babudar has been supporting the Chiefs while attending their games. However, his life took a drastic turn in December 2022. This was because, he was arrested for robbing a credit union in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

What happened at that time was, during that incident, he threatened the employees by reportedly carrying a CO2 pistol. On that gun point, he demanded $150,000 from a bank employee. As a result, he was arrested and brought to the court in February 2023. During the legal process, he was charged with $250,000 bond.

Hence, his attorney demanded a reduction in that, asking for $50,000. But the judge partially heard his plea. He decided to lower his bond but only to $80,000. Nevertheless, after paying it, Babudar was out in time, and attended his Chiefs’ game in 2023 Super Bowl. But that doesn’t mean his problems ended there!

In continuation of his legal process, Babudar was again asked to appear in court for future judgements. But surprisingly, he missed his court appearances. So, where was he? Well, it wasn’t revealed until the FBI caught him in California. This time, he was arrested due to a series of bank robberies across multiple states.

So, when he was brought to the courtroom, his attorney tried to lessen his punishment. The attorney shared that Babudar’s gambling addiction went out of control, and because of that, he struggled with mounting debts. And all of these were because of his troubled childhood.

According to court documents, “When Babudar was 8 years old, his father abandoned his family, leading to over 20 years of chronic homelessness, financial hardships and family trauma for Babudar.” And so, “it was during this transition to homelessness that Xaviar began to see himself as the support system for his family and he viewed himself as the one who would provide for his family regardless of the sacrifice.”

Therefore, according to his attorney, homelessness and family struggles fueled Babudar’s desperation to provide for his family, no matter the cost. And hence, the result. Yet, to take responsibility for his decisions, Patrick Mahomes’ fan, Babudar might be facing the consequences of all his deeds, just before his favorite team’s game!
