The Arrowhead Stadium basking in its full glory as Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs open their playoff campaign against the Texans on Saturday, the 18th of January. Preparations to make it an unforgettable game are underway. By all standards, it would be epic. The halftime will feature a halftime 5-minute medley by the rapper Big Boi.

At the end of the 3rd quarter, there will be a light show with the phones of all the fans in attendance. But the start of the game will be the best. An air show to kick-start the playoffs!

The city loves its football team. Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Chris Jones, and Andy Reid are a few they proudly boast about. And having the air force bases in the vicinity gives the advantage as well. This year, the city is prepared to make the showdown even more grandiose.

 

Four US Army CH-47 Chinook helicopters will fly before the divisional game between the Chiefs and Texans. Bravo Company 7-158th GSAB based out of Gardner, Kansas is taking the helm of flying them. The crowd is eagerly waiting for the flyover show, reminding everyone of why football is the most loved sport in the country.

We saw firsthand when Patrick Mahomes’ daughter, Golden Raye Mahomes, was born. KC Union Station celebrated the occasion as it lit in gold. For the Chiefdom, flyovers aren’t a new thing. It’s a celebration for which they wait each year.

Since 2018, the flyover didn’t happen only in 2023 as Patrick Mahomes’s Chiefs’ wildcard game against the Dolphins was their coldest game ever. They won the matchup, advancing to the next stage, and eventually winning the Super Bowl. Fans enjoyed and marveled at the flyovers for years before that.

In 2018, the 509th Wing flew B2 Stealth Bombers before the wildcard game against the Colts and 3 F-16 Fighting Falcons before the AFC Championship game against the Patriots, which they lost. But in 2019, they came back with renewed energy. The 2019 wild card game was a test of the Chiefs’ patience, which saw the four F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets conduct a flyover. The AFC Championship game in 2019 saw the 509th and 131st Bomb Wings flying Air Force B-2 stealth bombers before Mahomes & co. decimated the Titans and ultimately won the Super Bowl.

The 442nd Fighter Wing flew four “KC Hawgs” A-10 Thunderbolt ii’s before the 2020 AFC championship win against the Bills. 2 years later, four T-38s amazed the crowd as the home team advanced to Super Bowl with a victory over the Bengals. Fans love these majestic man-made birds flying above the stadium. On Saturday, fans would be hoping for a similar great show from Patrick Mahomes and the aircraft, with hopes of watching it again next weekend.
