In the unpredictable world of NFL football, even the mightiest streaks must end. The Kansas City Chiefs, who had become the masters of comeback victories, finally met their match this Sunday. After an incredible run of nine consecutive wins when trailing by seven or more points, the Chiefs found themselves on the wrong side of a 30-21 scoreline against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium.

While some fans are quick to attribute this loss to the notorious ‘dog days‘ of the season, let’s be real here – that’s not what the Chiefs are about. And for the Chiefs, this wasn’t about excuses or ‘dog days‘ – it was simply a game where the better team won.

Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill recently chimed in on the Thursday Sports Radio810. A journalist asked him about the so-called “dog days” of the season, especially with the team being so professional and the holiday coming up. The coach had mentioned that the team shows up the same way every week, so the reporter wanted to know if Tranquill felt any different after their first loss. Drue responded, “I’ve got to disagree. I don’t feel the ‘dog days’ at all. We’re loving it out there. The sun’s out and its a beautiful day in Kansas”

Drue mentioned that they’re pumped to be in this position, sitting at 9-1 and leading the AFC, with a shot at hosting playoff games. Of course, it’s Kansas City we’re talking about. Their players always have faith in their game and don’t point fingers at the sunny, hot ‘dog days’ for how they play.

It all kicks off with Patrick himself. Mahomes hasn’t had the best start to the season. He still hasn’t thrown a touchdown in the first quarter and has racked up five interceptions, including one on the second play during last Sunday’s game. His quarterback rating for the first quarter sits at 62.9, which is pretty low by NFL standards.

And Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes opened up about this mentioning the balance between passing and running during the game, saying, “We didn’t run as many plays as we’d like last game. We ended up throwing more than we intended because of how the game went.” He also mentioned that with their strong offensive line, running the pigskin effectively can really open things up. He emphasized that they all have complete faith in whatever the coach decides, and they’re ready to execute the game plan.

After winning vs the Giants last Sunday, the Carolina Panthers are gearing up to take on a solid Kansas City Chiefs team that’s coming in well-rested. The Panthers (3-7) have managed to snag two wins after a bye week, but the Chiefs (9-1) are in a bit of a different situation—they’re not riding a winning streak for the first time in ages.

Following their loss to Buffalo last week, they’re now tied with the Detroit Lions for the top record in the NFL. These two-time Super Bowl champs are looking to refocus and learn from this rare setback. “I’m trying to use this loss as an opportunity to finally be a better team,” Patrick Mahomes shared.

The Chiefs finished the 2022 season with a solid 14-3 record, even though they dropped two games in a row the year before. Back in 2021, they also had a 12-5 record after facing a couple of losses in a row. But in 2020, they were on fire with a 14-2 record and never experienced back-to-back losses.

The main takeaway is that the Chiefs look prepared to take on the Panthers, and it will be interesting to see if they can return to their winning form come next game.
