Is the Super Bowl loss still fresh for the Chiefs? Maybe. It’s only been a week since Philly crashed their three-peat hopes. So, while Kansas City might take their time to lament and move on from the hurt, they have situations that need their attention. Yes, it’s the usual post-Super Bowl shenanigans. It’s time to look after player contracts, decide on extensions, and clean up the roster. KC has already cut 7 players from the roster. And it’s time for Andy Reid and the front office to make some ‘huge’ decisions.

Now, as far as contract extensions are concerned, Nick Bolton‘s name pops up first who is an impending free agent. Bolton has been a major defensive weapon for the Chiefs. KC picked him up in 2021, signing a $5.84 million deal with him. And now that he has hit free agency, will the Chiefs just let him go? Well, a popular account ML Football posted on X that “Nick Bolton is projected to sign a 4-YEAR, $60 MILLION CONTRACT extension.

Yes, you read that right. Although it does not specify the team or mention the Chiefs, a contract extension would mean the Chiefs only. After the Super Bowl loss, Kansas City must do everything to make a strong comeback. For that, they need to ensure they have the best roster. Although they already have a roster that can contend for another Super Bowl next season.

And as long as they have Patrick Mahomes, they will always be strong contenders for the Super Bowl. But Mahomes alone won’t do; the defense needs to be equally strong. Chiefs OC Steve Spagnuolo calls Bolton the ‘Patrick Mahomes of the defense’. If that’s the case, an extension with Nick seems promising for the Chiefs in the long run.

On the other hand, the Chiefs also did a cleanup after the Super Bowl run.

Andy Reid & the Chiefs make roster moves

It’s cleanup time for Kansas City. Andy Reid and the front office bid farewell to seven players from the Chiefs’ roster. Enter Swayze Bozeman, who made his debut with the Chiefs this season as an undrafted free agent. Bozeman played only one game, and the Chiefs dropped him after the Super Bowl. The Southern Miss alum has already found a home with the Bears, so he will now be a teammate of Caleb Williams. Another LB whose time ended with the Chiefs is Cole Christiansen. The former Chargers player has yet to find his new team. Well, it must be horrible to part ways with a team like the Chiefs. Tyreek Hill would agree with this.

What’s your perspective on:

Will the Chiefs' cap space woes force them to let go of their defensive powerhouse, Nick Bolton?

Have an interesting take?

Two players have signed reserve/future contracts with the team. One of them is young LB Keontay Ingram. This is the second time Ingram has signed a reserve/future contract with KC- he did the same last year. The former Falcons player is joined by TE Anthony Firkser, who is also in the same boat.

Now, let’s move to the CB depth. Veteran Steven Nelson is set to say goodbye to Andy Reid and the Chiefs once again. And then there is a young CB Nic Jones who has found a new home with the Giants. So, he’ll be packing his bags for New York. The last one is WR Montrell Washington, who will be joining Nic Jones with the Giants. Looks like the duo can take the same flight to New York to join their new team.
