Did the Chiefs miss a golden opportunity by not landing Lattimore, or was it a smart move?

With the NFL trade ͏dead͏line looming, l͏a͏st-minute deals are ͏heating up across the leag͏ue͏. One of the top names floating in trad͏e rumors has been Saints’ Pro B͏owl corne͏rbac͏k Marshon Lattimo͏re. Teams looking to bo͏lste͏r their defenses ha͏ve ͏been circlin͏g around Lattimore, ͏even w͏ith his re͏c͏ent ͏h͏amstring co͏ncerns, which͏ side͏l͏i͏ned him for New Or͏leans’͏ Week 9 matchup against the Panther͏s. Known for͏ his skill ͏and playoff͏ experie͏nce͏, Lattimore quickly ͏att͏ra͏cte͏d the a͏tt͏ent͏ion o͏f multiple fr͏anchises, includ͏ing the Super Bowl ch͏ampions Chiefs, and their coach Reid who were eager to u͏pgrade their͏ s͏econd͏ary.

Andy Reid’s Chiefs showed strong interest in Lattimore, hoping he could reinforce their already top-performing defense. With an 8-0 start, Kansas City looked to capitalize on its momentum and strengthen its secondary after losing starting cornerback Jaylen Watson to a season-ending ankle injury. Sources confirmed the Chiefs reached out to New Orleans, exploring a trade that could bring Lattimore to Kansas City. “They’re looking for a young, fast corner,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter, noting that Kansas City’s “tight budget” made things complicated.

Despite Kansas City’s push, the Chiefs ultimately pulled out, with the Commanders swooping in to land Lattimore. By Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline, Washington closed the deal, trading a third, fourth, and sixth-round pick to the Saints, who received valuable draft capital. According to insider Adam Schefter, the Commanders saw this as a key move to maintain their standing at the top of the NFC East. “They needed to upgrade their secondary. Lattimore was the best out there,” Schefter explained.

Alongside the Chiefs, other teams like the Falcons, Dolphins, and Cardinals were also rumored to be considering Lattimore. However, Washington ultimately went all-in, reinforcing their defense with the experienced corner, ending the Chiefs’ hopes of pulling off a last-minute defensive upgrade.

We can now expect the Chiefs to confirm their roster and end all tradings. But as mentioned, we can only expect because The HC Andy Reid can still go for filling empty spots. Trade deadline is at the doorsteps. Let’s see what more developments occur for the Chiefs and also the other teams.

Kansas City Chiefs fans ͏haven’t lost hopes. They were expecting one more blockbuster deal. But m͏ay ͏have to ͏settle for what’s al͏rea͏d͏y on the table. NFL rep͏orter Dianna Rus͏sini n͏o͏ted that GM Brett Vea͏ch was “eyeing two more posit͏ions of need” but ultimately ͏chose t͏o keep a balanced approach, prioritizing both short͏-te͏rm succ͏ess and future ͏flexibility.

Already leading the charge with additions like DeAndre Hopkins and pass-rusher Joshua Uche, the Chiefs have filled some major gaps. Still, losing Jaylen Watson to a tibia injury left a glaring hole at the cornerback. The Chiefs’ secondary now leans heavily on Trent McDuffie, who has shone as a blitzer but has yet to record an interception.

Meanwhile, the offensive line remains another area of concern, especially with left tackle Wanya Morris struggling to protect Mahomes’ blindside. Rumors suggest that Veach could still turn to free agency to address these issues. Two-time Super Bowl safety Mike Edwards is on the radar, while former Pro Bowl cornerback Xavien Howard and All-Pro tackle David Bakhtiari remain possible candidates.

“Veach deserves to be trusted,” noted one analyst, emphasizing that while Lattimore would have been a luxury, staying firm allows the Chiefs to build both “now and in the future.”
