With just hours left for the Super Bowl, there’s good news for the Chiefs. While both camps are littered with injuries, the Chiefs are not doing as poorly. Jerick McKinnon had been sidelined due to a groin injury. But it seems that no power can keep him from playing in the Super Bowl. And the Chiefs need as many offensive hands as they can get to win the game.
If they win, it will be their fourth Super Bowl. So, what is the status of McKinnon, or “Jet” as they call him? Will he able to play in the climax of the 2023 season?

The Kansas City Chiefs will be facing off against the San Francisco 49ers just a few hours from today. Running Back Jerick McKinnon is one step closer to playing in Super Bowl LVIII, as he has been activated from injured reserve ahead of the big game, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. McKinnon, who has been dealing with a groin injury, remains questionable for the game and is considered a game-time decision.
There is a good chance the #Chiefs will have RB Jet McKinnon today. He’s considered a game time decision but he’s expected to go per source. Remarkable that’s he’s been able to get himself ready for this game.

Despite being limited in practice throughout the week, McKinnon is hopeful to contribute to the Chiefs’ backfield and support starter Isiah Pacheco if he is cleared to play. While it remains unclear how many snaps the 8-year NFL veteran will get, the fact that he has worked his way back onto the active roster is an impressive feat in itself. After dealing with a groin injury that sidelined him since Week 16, McKinnon’s return adds depth and experience to the Kansas City Chiefs’ backfield as they prepare to face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. The team has officially announced McKinnon’s activation, indicating progress in his recovery process.

Chiefs injury report ahead of Super Bowl
The Chiefs will be facing Super Bowl LVIII against the 49ers without key players due to injuries. Offensive lineman Joe Thuney has been ruled out with a pectoral injury that has sidelined him for the deep postseason run, and backup offensive tackle Prince Tega Wanogho is also out with a quad injury. Thuney was placed on injured reserve, with running back Jerick McKinnon taking his spot on the roster, as reported by CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid indicated earlier in the week that Nick Allegretti, who performed well starting in place of Thuney during the AFC championship game against the Baltimore Ravens, will likely step in once again. Additionally, defensive end Charles Omenihu won’t be available for the Super Bowl after being placed on injured reserve following a knee injury sustained in the AFC title game victory over Baltimore.
