Linebacker Willie Gay Jr.’s neck injury at a crucial stage last night raised troubles for the Kansas City Chiefs. In the do-or-die battle against arch-rivals the Buffalo Bills, this injury means concern for the Chiefs’ defense. The Chiefs hold the upper hand in dealing with the Bills at the playoffs, but this time they won the nailbiter in the lair of Bills Mafia.

Patrick Mahomes has always won against Josh Allen’s side in the playoffs, but that was a different story at the Arrowhead. The Bills Stadium brought an environment of hostility the Chiefs were not accustomed to in the knockout round. On top of this, Willie Gay’s apparent absence could have meant havoc for the Red Army.

Willie Gay has 58 tackles and 4 QB hits in this season. He is an important factor in the Chiefs’ defensive arsenal. He was tasked with keeping an eye on dual-threat QB Josh Allen’s rushing advances. In the game, Gay had three tackles before injuring his neck. Matt Derrick updated his status on X.

He posted about the defensive spearhead’s status, “Chiefs have downgraded Willie Gay to OUT.” He shed light on his questionable return, “He Won’t return with the neck injury.” He is not the only one who bore the brunt for the Chiefs’ side. Other major players suffered gruesome injuries during the helm of the play as well.

The Chiefs are losing players at the wrong time

The Chiefs came into the game with 7 inactive including Kadarius Toney and 4 key defensive players. At the start of the game, the Chiefs were struck with a devastating blow after Mike Edwards suffered a concussion. He was sent to the locker room for evaluation and has been ruled out from the rest of the game.
