When the first words in the Instagram bio read, “👑 Christus Regnat!” the Latin phrase for Christ reigns, you can understand how dear faith is to the person. Here, it’s the Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker. Almost all of his photos on social media have a verse from the Bible. Over the years, some have grown to really like him, while some haven’t. But for Chiefs heiress Gracie Hunt, his impact on Patrick Mahomes & co. is profound.

While talking to the swimmer and political activist Riley Gaines on the February 5 episode of the Gaines for Girls podcast, the daughter of the Chiefs owner, Clark Hunt, shared some deep insights. She called him an awesome family fan and said, “I think what’s been really cool to see this year especially but you’ve definitely seen it in other years is I just think it’s such a sense of iron sharpening iron and Harrison and his boldness in his faith encourages you know other guys to be bold in their faith and um and you’ve seen Patrick be so bold in his faith and thanking God right off the bat when we won the AFC Championship on Sunday.” She is right.

The Chiefs were struggling in the 2024 season. They failed to cross the 30-point mark in the regular season and divisional game against the Texans. However, against the Bills, when it was needed most, they did it, beating them 32-29. While Patrick Mahomes scored with a rushing TD in the 2nd quarter, Harrison Butker scored the 35-yard FG at the 3:33 mark in the 4th quarter, giving them the lead.

However, the most highlighted part came after the game. Relieved that they entered the Super Bowl, Mahomes said, “First off, I want to give all glory to God.” That was the change that surprised everyone, even Gracie Hunt. But that’s also why the fans love the Chiefs.

The team is in New Orleans now, preparing for the big game. And they don’t want the outside noise to disturb them.

What’s your perspective on:

Does Harrison Butker's faith-driven leadership make him a hero or a distraction for the Chiefs?

On Monday, February 3, the Chiefs’ kicker was asked about his views on gay people. But he evaded the question and answered, “I understand that this is a great evening and we’re here to focus on the game.” That was neat! The reporters clearly wanted a controversy, but he swiftly moved past them.

Harrison Butker is not a stranger to such wild moments. During a commencement address at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, in May 2023, he polarized opinions by claiming that most graduating women were more excited about getting married and becoming mothers. He also claimed that many catholic leaders were pushing dangerous gender ideologies into the youth.

He also rallied against abortion, forcing the league to distance itself from the player. But his place in the Chiefs has made him a popular figure in the football world. With a 3-peat in sight, he would definitely like to leave other matters on the backseat for now.
