Is Kansas City’s pursuit of Cooper Kupp a sign of desperation or strategic brilliance?

Kansas City’s cooking up something big—and it could change the literal landscape of their offense. The latest buzz? A potential trade target to help Patrick Mahomes

NFL insiders are splitting up about the Chiefs eyeing an $80M option: Cooper Kupp. The scoop comes from Steelers Depot X handle, the Rams have had discussions with Kansas City, along with the Bills and Steelers, regarding the star WR. This kind of interest signals a serious pivot in the Chiefs’ strategy.

Remember when the Chiefs were the ‘passing game’ kings? Ahan, those days feel long gone. Now, they’re chilling at 12th in passing yds with just 221.5 per game. Mahomes has thrown more interceptions (8) than touchdowns (6) this season—wild for a guy of his talent!

To shake things up, KC snagged DeAndre Hopkins (offering $26M) from Tennessee, sending a conditional fifth-round pick (that could turn into a fourth if he hits 60% of the snaps). The Titans even chipped in by covering half of Hopkins’ salary. Former NFL star Rodney Harrison called it a “home run,” but Kansas City‘s front office ain’t stopping there.

NFL Insider Tom Pelissero dropped a bombshell on The Rich Eisen Show, revealing, “The Chiefs definitely are going to continue to be in the market.” With Brett Veach at the helm, they might add another WR or even a CB to fill the L’Jarius Sneed void.

Despite adding Hopkins, who’s struggled in 2024—15 catches for 173 yards and one TD, the Chiefs are hoping for big stuff. Injuries aren’t helping either. Rashee Rice, Marquise Brown, and Isiah Pacheco are all out.

Patrick Mahomes stays confident amid trade buzz

While the Nov. 5 trade deadline’s looming, the Chiefs are keeping it cool as stars like Davante Adams and Amari Cooper land with new teams. But don’t count out Patrick Mahomes—he’s got faith in the squad.

“I have extreme confidence with the guys that are on that football field,” the three-time Super Bowl champ declared. “They’ve won games, they’ve won Super Bowls, and they know how to make plays in big moments.” With Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown nursing injuries, the KC team’s banking on Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Justin Watson

Rookie WR Worthy boasts 12 catches and four TDs. Not to mention, Smith-Schuster turned heads with seven grabs for 130 yards against the Saints. Watson’s also doing his part with six catches for 87 yards.

Looking ahead, QB Mahomes knows the stakes against San Francisco, a team they’ve already tangled with. “We’ve got to make the plays whenever they count,” he said. With Mahomes’ confidence lighting the way, the Chiefs are primed to turn the tide.
