“They’ll get a great football coach, a great person. He understands the game, he understands the players. He deserves another shot. I’m one of his biggest fans.” Andy Reid gave a glowing review of his defensive mastermind, Steve Spagnuolo, when he was touted as a hot prospect for head coaching roles around the league. The Jets, Raiders, and Jaguars all inquired about Steve, but none gave him a second chance. Since his disastrous 10-38 record with St. Louis Rams, the franchises have continued to ignore Spagnuolo. Now, 65, Spags still can’t wrap his head around missing out on landing another head coaching gig.
Spags is in his 6th season with the Chiefs now. And there hasn’t been a single season in Spags’ era the Chiefs have dropped below top-10 defense in Turnovers and Points allowed. Under Steve’s guidance, the Chiefs have consistently been in the upper half of the NFL in defensive rankings. Whether it’s sacks, takeaways, or red-zone defense, Spagnuolo’s defensive scheme has been the focal point in the Chiefs’ budding dynasty. Spags is the only defensive coordinator ever to win 4 Super Bowls.
So, obviously, when he saw none of the teams give him an opportunity to serve as a head coach again. Spags left an emotional message to Chris O’ Gorman, “Who knows. I’m okay.” You don’t have to be a psychologist to understand the pain behind Spagnuolo’s message. Last year, Spags coached a No.4 scoring defense (19.2 pts/g) and No.9 in total defense (320.6 yards/g). Besides his incredible resume with the Chiefs, Spags was also a mastermind in the Giants Super Bowl LXII upset 17-14 win over the Patriots. His Giants’ defense sacked Tom Brady 5 times (the most he had been sacked any game that season).

Besides his St. Louis chapter, Steve also served as the Giants’ interim head coach in 2017. But yet again, he failed to impress in those 4 games after Ben McAdoo was fired. Under Spags’ tutelage, the Giants only got 1 win out of 4. Then, after he took a year off the NFL, Steve joined Andy Reid’s staff. From there, he has turned the Chiefs’ defense into a fortress. Whether it’s his innovative ideas or blitzing schemes, Steve has coached a tough and no-nonsense defense.
Andy Reid might have often earned the credit for the Chiefs’ dominance in recent years, but without Spagnuolo, this dynasty wouldn’t even have been possible in the first place. While Spags expresses his regret for not being handed a second chance, it seems Travis Kelce wants to give his all in one last hurrah with the Chiefs. After maintaining a deafening silence all off-season, Kelce was spotted back on the gridiron.

Why hasn't Steve Spagnuolo landed a head coaching job despite his defensive genius with the Chiefs?

Travis Kelce finally comes out of his Super Bowl LIX heartbreak
Ever since Kelce could make his dream of capturing the 3-peat last season come true, he has somewhat maintained a low profile. There haven’t been many instances where Kelce was last captured with a football. However, it seems he is finally moving on from last season’s horrors. Kelce was captured getting reps in Georgia with a bunch of high schoolers. NFL legend Jamal Lewis’ son, Jazz, shared a sweat-drenched photo with Kelce. “Got some good work in with Travis Kelce this past week,” Jazz wrote on X.

Jazz, who plays as a receiver for Chamblee High School, further added, “learned a lot from the Super Bowl legend.” Well, Kelce didn’t just practice with Jazz, he also hopped on the gridiron with a bunch of other high schoolers in Georgia. QB Brayden Doss also wrote on X, “Got some training in with @tkelce @Jazzlewis1018.” As for Kelce, he seems to have enjoyed his time in Georgia. He was all smiles, rocking a simple outfit with a tank top and a backward baseball cap.

His football practice with Jazz and his mates comes after Andy Reid told us that his TE has been “training like crazy.” This was probably one of those examples as Kelce gears up for one last run with the Chiefs. With a chip on his shoulder to go out with a bang, possibly another Super Bowl, Kelce is surely going to come back a lot stronger than last season.
