Tavia Hunt backing Brittany Mahomes—Is this the power duo the NFL needs right now?

The Kansas City Chiefs find themselves in the eye of the storm. First, it was Britanny Mahomes, who came under fire for ‘liking’ a Donald Trump post on Instagram, which had a list of quite a few controversial campaign promises. While the backlash from her actions is subsiding, Tavia Hunt, the wife of the Chiefs’ owner, shared a pro-Trump post on her Instagram, which could turn heads once again.

Hunt has been vocal in her opinions in the past and even spoke out after the assassination attempt on Trump on 13 July, calling for a “collective change.” And as the US presidential race heats up, Hunt once again showed her allegiance by sharing a video that underlined one of Trump’s core decisions during his term as president.

Taking to her Instagram story on Tuesday, she reshared a video from an account named, daterightstuff, which champions a controversial perspective: “Do you know it costs $450B to care for the migrants who invaded our country, and yet they told us $10B for a wall was too expensive. Got it!” With this story reshare it seems like Hunt is backing Donald Trump’s stance on immigration.

Back in 2016, when Trump took charge at the White House, he was determined to deliver on one of his key election promises to build a barrier along the southwest border of the U.S. Though the initial plans estimated the cost of the wall, which would form an extensive border fence with Mexico, to be around $8-$12 billion at most, it went to about $15 million, by the time construction was halted in 2021 after Joe Biden took office.

Kansas City part-owner and CEO, Tavia Hunt isn’t the one to shy away from her opinions. Following the assassination attempt on Trump, she took to her Instagram story to share a strong opinion. “Our country is BROKEN. It doesn’t matter which side your deeply held beliefs land on – the level of depravity ever present is not okay! Human decency and the understanding of right and wrong should be able to cross party lines!” she wrote.

This was also seen when she came out in support of Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker after his controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College in May.

Butker faced a wave of criticism for suggesting women might find more joy in traditional roles rather than careers. “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world,” Butker said to a gathering of nearly 485 male and female graduates causing outrage. This led to a petition with over 187k signatures calling for his removal from the team. However, Tavia chose to back Butker’s comments.

Taking to her Instagram on May 16, she posted a message that she always encouraged her daughters to be highly educated and chase their dreams in ways that honor God. She also wrote, “But I also want them to know that I believe finding a spouse who loves and honors you as or before himself and raising a family together is one of the greatest blessings this world has to offer,” backing Butker’s debatable views.

Defending the kicker’s views and stressing that appreciating motherhood isn’t “bigoted.” Her comments also found backing from the Chiefs heiress and her daughter Gracie, who supported Butker.

In the middle of all this, Tavia also chose to stand by Brittany Mahomes, who received backlash for seemingly endorsing Trump’s election campaign promises.

Brittany Mahomes finds support from Tavia Hunt amid backlash

Brittany Mahomes triggered a wave of liberal backlash after liking an IG post from Republican presidential candidate Trump. The post, outlining his 20-point platform, touched on everything from border control to Trump’s vision for “new and record levels of success.” It also included promises such as “Cut federal funding for any school pushing Critical Race Theory, Radical Gender Ideology” and “Carry out the largest deportation operation in American history.”

The post was uploaded on Instagram on August 13 and while it is unclear when Brittany liked it, screenshots and screen recordings of her liking the post were circulated on social media. Following the criticism, it appears she has removed her like, but not before hitting out at those who came after her.

In an Instagram story on 23 August, she noted, “To be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood.” She continued, “There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well.” Three days later she sent another message highlighting her stance.

Brittany reshared preacher Shane Pruitt’s post in her IG story that read, “Contrary to the tone of the world today… you can disagree with someone, and still love them. You can have differing views, and still be kind.” In a show of support, Tavia Hunt also shared the same story on her profile.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes is keeping it chill on the political front. As the 2024 election heats up, the Chiefs’ QB is staying neutral, alluding to TIME in April, “I don’t want to pressure anyone to vote for a certain president. I want people to use their voice, whoever they believe in. I want them to do the research.”

As the political scene heats up with stars like Brittany and Patrick Mahomes in the mix, the NFL’s biggest names are navigating sports and politics.
