Mike McCarthy’s job is currently being held up by a single thread. Rumors of his firing are all you can hear, and while Jerry Jones denies it happening anytime soon, the probability remains. With 4 wins and 7 defeats, The Cowboys‘ record is something that is maybe fueling this rumor. And it is safe due to all this Mike McCarthy’s heart is racing every single day, even if the team is winning. But is this firing really going to happen, or is it just a publicity stunt? What exactly is going on?

Mike Florio asked this question on the NFL on NBC. The analyst was unhappy with the Cowboys’ owner and called him “cheap.” Ouch. Florio alleged that Jerry Jones was deliberately stirring up controversy about the firing. But, wait a minute, why would he do something like this?

Well, the solution is simple: for money. In Florio’s words, “Maybe this black cloud that’s been hovering over Mike McCarthy softens him up and gets him to take less than maybe what he would otherwise expect.”

If we look at his statement in short, the man called all these firing rumors a “long con negotiating ploy.” But if this is the case, why would Jones consider Bill Belichick? Mike Florio gave an answer to this on NFL on NBC as well. Think about it this way. Belichick is a renowned world-class coach and nothing could be better than having him on board. However, if he does not come on board, his joining rumors will cause McCarthy to join at a lower salary. And boom, that’s what Jerry Jones may be looking forward to.

Although it is unclear whether this is true, if it is, Jerry Jones is truly a mastermind. But, again, that is what business owners do best: make money. Now let’s assume Mike McCarthy accepts less money and signs another contract with the team. What about the Dallas Cowboys’ performance? How will this improve? Well, Mike Florio believes Jerry Jones will not think about the team

Mike Florio thinks Jerry Jones does not want to win the Super Bowl

At first, this may sound strange, but Florio says it’s true. The commentator believes Jerry Jones is a money-hungry businessman. And if he shows supporters a strong desire to win the Super Bowl, they will cheer for the Cowboys. They will come to the stadium to buy tickets, food, sodas, merchandise, and other items. And in the end, everything will be profitable for Jones.

While this was a significant statement from Florio, his case seemed convincing. The man even remarked at one point that everything Jerry Jones does is “nonsense.”And there is a possibility that Mike Florio is right as under Mike McCarthy, the team has achieved great things. The head coach has accomplished a lot since joining the team in 2020. And here are the records:

  • In 2022: 12 wins and 5 losses
  • In 2023: 12 wins and 5 losses
  • In 2024: 4 wins and 7 losses*
