“New England Patriots are making it to the playoffs!” Name a prediction, made with such confidence, more wrong. We’ll wait. Well, NBA analyst and Hall-of-Famer Charles Barkley is no stranger to making such statements. And now, exactly a year after making the Patriots prediction, he was back at the NFL Insiders. But this time, to predict the Super Bowl Champs. No! He didn’t say Patrick Mahomes‘ Kansas City Chiefs, even though that might have been the safest of options.
On the 12th of July, analyst Ian Rapoport tweeted a snippet of the former professional basketball player joining the Insiders on NFL Network from the American Championship Golf Tournament in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The hosts played Barkley’s last year’s prediction that aged like milk. But that did not stop the Round Mound of Rebound from having a crack at it again! Before leaving, he was asked about his predictions for the upcoming season. Guess what, he did not even break a breath as he screamed, “My Philadelphia Eagles are going to win the Super Bowl! We are gonna win the Super Bowl.” You have got to respect his conviction. But that’s far-fetched. Their latest win and first overall was in 2018 when they beat the Patriots 41-33.

However, his antics from the golf course in Tahoe did not end there. Before he predicted the Eagles’ win, he trolled the Dallas Cowboys with a blatant response. To a fan wearing an America’s Team hat, merely shaking hands to get his selfie taken with the NBA legend. “You know the Cowboys suck, right?” We wonder what Jerry Jones might think of that! The fan took it in his stride. He could only smile at that remark before posing for the selfie.
Barkley is known for his roasts and banters. Any team can get it. NBA or the NFL – no matter the sport. Ask the New York Knicks fans what they think about him! Now, the Cowboys were on the receiving end. It’s nothing more than a friendly poke. One where he knows that the Cowboys fans are so fanatic about their team that it will trigger them. But fair to this fan, who took it with a smile.
But even if this was just for the laughs. We let this one slide. But what about the prediction? Well, it might not be as off-putting as it might seem.
How off-base is Charles Barkley in Predicting the Eagles to win the Super Bowl?
Charles Barkley’s love for basketball is well known. Being a former professional, you expect that from him. Similarly, his love for the NFL cannot be questioned. Be it with predictions, analysis, or simply putting his favorites out there. You can see that he loves the sport. But does he know what he is talking about when he says the Eagles will win the SB next year?
He is not a Seer. But he’s not dumb, either. It is out of respect and love that he believes in the birds. Barkley spent half of his career playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, from 1984 to 1992. So, you cannot blame the man for backing a Philly team in football. But what if his prediction comes true? How difficult is it for the Eagles to win the Super Bowl next year? Let’s see.

On paper, the Eagles should be the second-best team in the NFC. The best and the favorite remains the San Francisco 49ers. Fresh from the bruise of the SB loss to the Chiefs. And even if they reach the Super Bowl, they might face the reigning champions. The Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes are eyeing the unprecedented 3-peat.
Despite facing tough competition, the Eagles must remain confident. AJ Brown and Jalen Hurts duo is a killer. The two make up a top-tier QB-WR duo in the league. DeVonta Smith can also fill in the shoes as an elite second option. Not just that! The addition of Saquon Barkley brings solidity to the running back position.
So, Barkley and the Eagles Nation are not crazy. Their expectations stem from their team’s new look. Especially, since they have made improvements in their struggling areas. It’s just that the doubters have reasons to question this belief.

Barkley’s prediction might not have seemed bold last season. The Eagles began 2023 with a 10-1 record after winning the NFC the previous year. However, they ended 2023 with a disappointing 1-6 finish and a blowout loss in the playoffs, raising the eyebrows.
Besides throwing jibes and going full rogue with his forecasting, Sir Charles had an exciting afternoon. He achieved a personal-best round in the golf tournament. A feat that he might only remember. For the fans? It’s his bold prediction that will linger until the SB LIX winner is known.
