On Thursday, the Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears put on a forgettable performance on a cold and rainy night at Soldier Field. The dreadful 6-3 win for the Seahawks was not what many fans who tuned into TNF action expected. But for those who remained tuned in to Amazon Prime’s Nightcap, there was more and perhaps even better action on offer.
Prime Video’s sportscaster, Charissa Thompson, has aced the “Who Ya Got” charts! Alongside her co-hosts, Tony Gonzalez and Andrew Whitworth, she has a 12-4 record at the end of the season-long tournament, where they predicted the outcome of the games. As the TNF Nightcap hosts presented the charts, Richard Sherman lost the bid and had to face the ultimate punishment.
After the record-breaking viewership of Christmas games on Netflix, Charissa and the crew chipped in with this interesting stunt. Sherman had to jump in an ice bath for 30 seconds after he finished last in the standings with a 7-9 record. Before Sherman jumped in Charissa Thompson asked for a temperature reading of the ice baths and her co-host jumped into the one that read 30.

Gonzalez remarked, “No way you could do 30 seconds,” and asked Sherman to get down deeper into the bath. And, in a hilarious sequence, Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has 17 years of NFL experience as a QB, and now is a top analyst with TNF, joined in.
While Sherman barely lasted 30 seconds before jumping out as more ice came in. But Fitzpatrick continued to dabble in the ice-cold water and even submerged himself, getting all soaked as others cheered on. This led Charissa Thompson to quip, “Ain’t getting that on Netflix.”
NFL on Prime Video shared the video of Sherman jumping into the ice bath with the caption“@FitzMagic_14 is a MANIAC 🥶.” Fitzpatrick stayed in the tub long after Sherman hopped out and willingly poured ice over his head, showcasing his endurance.

In 2021, the NFL signed an 11-year media rights deal agreement that will run through 2033 and could be worth over $100 billion. The league renewed TV rights with all of its existing broadcast partners and added Amazon Prime Video as an exclusive partner for its Thursday Night Football package, with the streaming giant paying $1 billion per year in a 10-year deal that started in 2o23.
The deal has proved to be fruitful for Amazon and the NFL. Last year, TNF’s season average was 11.86 million in Amazon’s second season exclusively airing NFL games. This year Amazon has broken its own ratings record twice during Thursday Night games.
The Lions’ win over NFC North rival Packers thanks to a last-second field goal in early December, drew an average of 17.29 million viewers, according to Nielsen. This number broke the record set during the Week 4 Cowboys-Giants clash, which saw an average of 16.22 million viewers tune in.
While these numbers are impressive, Netflix showed its global appeal by drawing massive numbers for its two Christmas games.
Netflix’s live coverage of Christmas Day games brings millions of viewers
Under the steaming giant’s three-year, $150 million contract deal with the NFL, Netflix has succeeded in bringing notable viewers to Christmas Day games. They brought a record-breaking 65 million active viewers during their live NFL games coverage.

Well, as per Nielsen Media Research data, the opening Christmas Day game between the Chiefs and Steelers gained an average minute audience of 24.1 million. On the other hand, the second game between the Ravens and Texans garnered an average minute audience of 24.3 million viewers. But these two games weren’t the most watched NFL segments on the night.
Notably, Beyoncé’s halftime show — dubbed “Beyoncé Bowl” — drew 27 million viewers according to Netflix. This was the highest audience peak during the two games. Netflix’s achievement is made all the more impressive as according to the streaming giant fans from more than 200 countries tuned in at some point to Chiefs-Steelers. The global ratings will be released on December 31.

Amazon Prime and Netflix will continue to be on the opposing sides in their quest to draw more viewers for at least another two years. Meanwhile, what slightly works for Prime Video as an overall experience, is the excitement brought by their crew as seen following the latest Thursday Night game.
