Charissa Thompson isn’t one to sugarcoat things—especially when it comes to her own love life. In true unfiltered fashion, she once admitted, “I married the wrong people, plural.” No beating around the bush, no fluff—just straight-up truth. And now, she’s doubling down on that mindset.
Thompson took to Instagram to share a quote from Jennifer Aniston that said, “You don’t need a husband or kids to be thriving. Your ‘happily ever after’ is whatever you want it to be.” And let’s be real—coming from Thompson, this wasn’t just some aesthetic repost. It hit different. She’s been married twice, and neither worked out. Her most recent marriage to sports agent Kyle Thousand ended in 2022 after less than two years. She even rejected the idea of marriage with her current boyfriend. Before that, she had a short-lived marriage in her twenties, which she barely talks about. But here’s the kicker—she’s not bitter, she’s not pressed, and she’s definitely not out here trying to “fix” her life. She is chilling, doing her own thing, and living proof that you don’t need a ring or a baby to be valid.
She even got real about it on Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast. Admitting that her childhood dreams of being a wife and mom didn’t exactly pan out. “I always thought I’d have kids… and a marriage that lasted 45 years like my parents. None of that happened,” she said. And honestly? Her first marriage was straight out of a rom-com gone wrong—she and her then-husband legit crashed someone else’s wedding on the beach. Cut a cake that wasn’t even theirs. If that’s not a metaphor for how unpredictable life is, we don’t know what is.

Thompson’s love life has been anything but your standard fairytale. Her first marriage? A total whirlwind. She got hitched at 25 in a way that was more spontaneous than planned. She’s even joked about crashing someone else’s wedding cake. But that chapter is mostly a mystery since she doesn’t spill too many details. Then came her second marriage to sports agent Kyle Thousand, which seemed like a dream from the outside. The two got engaged in January 2020 and tied the knot in an intimate ceremony later that year. But just like that, the fairytale fizzled—Thompson filed for divorce in April 2022, citing irreconcilable differences.
Looking back, she’s been refreshingly honest about how her failed marriages shaped her views on relationships and motherhood. Marriage? Not her thing. Kids? Also, a no. “Everyone has a choice, or sometimes you don’t have a choice—that becomes your reality,” she explained. “My choice to not have children grew from my struggle in marriages. I’ve been divorced twice, and I had some situations that created a lot of mistrust and a lot of heartache.” And her reasoning makes sense. She straight-up said she didn’t want to “attach” herself to something she couldn’t “detach from,” adding, “I can walk away from those marriages, but I can’t walk away from children.”
Her split from Thousand was especially rough, and she even got emotional talking about it on her Calm Down podcast with Erin Andrews. “As one’s love story begins, another one ends,” she said while chatting about Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s engagement. Andrews, being the ultimate bestie, reassured her, “Full disclosure, I love you and I’m proud of you.” Thompson also admitted that being divorced twice before 40 felt “embarrassing,” but instead of dwelling on it, she’s owning her truth. She’s made it crystal clear—she’s done playing by society’s rulebook and is fully locked in on what makes her happy, no matter what anyone else thinks.

Charissa Thompson drops a love letter to Fox Sports on her way out
Charissa just wrapped up her Fox Sports era, and instead of a messy breakup, she’s leaving with pure gratitude. On her Calm Down podcast, she spilled that her contract expired after the 2024 NFL season. But she wasn’t about to dip without showing some love. Thompson got all sentimental, calling Fox her “extended work fam” and reminiscing about how they treated her real fam like VIPs at Super Bowl 2025.
While covering the big game with her bestie-for-life Erin Andrews, Thompson couldn’t help but give Fox its props. She talked about how they made her dad and brother feel like royalty in New Orleans, saying, “Fox is family to me, so my own family sharing in those moments meant everything”. And this wasn’t just her being nice—she and Andrews have always raved about how tight their Fox crew is. So this goodbye kinda hits different. Oh, and plot twist: Andrews casually mentioned that her contract is up too, which has people wondering what’s next for Fox’s NFL squad.

Have an interesting take?
Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson have been besties since day one, and their Fox Sports era only made their bond even stronger. When they first crossed paths at ESPN, Thompson was the new kid, but Andrews didn’t hesitate to hype her up. “She flies out the door and was like, ‘Welcome, I’m here for you. Whatever you need, I’ve got your back.’ We weren’t even friends yet,” Thompson spilled. And just like that, their friendship took off—through job changes, Super Bowls, and all the chaos that comes with covering the NFL.
Now, with Andrews’ own Fox contract up, she’s keeping it real about what’s next. She’s down to stick around for another Super Bowl (especially if it’s in Vegas, duh), but she’s also open to slowing things down. She and Thompson have even joked about ditching sports for local news one day. “Erin and I also have an affinity for local news. There’s going to be a time in our lives… where they can roll us out and we can work like a couple days a week,” Thompson said. Whether they’re covering the NFL or reading the weather in their golden years, one thing’s for sure—these two are locked in for life.
