The season is approaching the endgame—Super Bowl LIX on February 9 in New Orleans. While the Eagles and Chiefs prepare hard to win the trophy, other NFL stars are making waves in the Pro Bowl Games. It started on January 30th when we saw Joe Burrow and Sam Darnold trolled for being accurate in such carefree situations. Now Chargers star Derwin James has made a shocking admission about the Chiefs TE Travis Kelce.
While signing cards and t-shirts for the enthusiastic fans, he was asked if he would smack Travis Kelce again, referring to his body slam tackle from 2022. Immediately agreeing, he replied, “Got to bro. You got to! If you ain’t going out there to smack somebody, what you doing?” That’s right! Most sports are a competition between scorer and stopper. You gotta do what you gotta do!

Let’s go back to the week 2 matchup of the 2022 season. In the 3rd quarter, at the 1:35 mark, Travis Kelce evaded the Chargers D-line on a first-down reception until he ran into a beast. Derwin James came up, tackled him, lifted him up, and slammed him to the ground. For a moment, it looked like he was a WWE superstar. But coming at the 2-yard line, it helped the Chargers prevent a touchdown, with the drive ending in a field goal instead.
The safety explained his mindset in such situations and added, “It’s a battle. It’s man-on-man, so you know what time it is.” As a safety, Derwin James is the last line of defense. And to stop a 6′ 5″ 250-pound giant like Travis Kelce, you need to do whatever it takes. It’s one of the prime examples of the physical aspect of football.
However, the Chiefs TE’s attention is somewhere else. He wants to create history in a game that is worth being remembered for.
Travis Kelce surprises Eagles fans
Super Bowl LVII was a great game. It pitched the Kelce brothers against each other. The younger brother won 38-35. This year, it’s a replay with one stark difference, Jason Kelce is no longer a player. He retired after the 2023 season and, among other things, hosts the show, They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Derwin James' smack talk about Kelce just hype, or does it show true defensive grit?

Travis Kelce, as he often does, appeared on a recent episode of the show. While expressing some brotherly love, he surprised the Eagles fans with his message, “Go Birds, baby!” But the former Eagles player replied while laughing, “You don’t mean that.” The Chiefs tight end played it smart.
He continued, “What do you mean? I’m a Jason Kelce fanatic, dude. I still got some Philly pride man.” The crowd got crazy during the crazy back and forth. But his elder brother downplayed it all by saying, “There’s absolutely no chance you mean that.”

All in all, the Super Bowl LIX will be epic. Both teams are in dominant form and have their own compelling narratives driving them forward. Kelce will be nowhere near as friendly to the Eagles as he was on the show. It will be intense.
