Is it time for the NFL to give Colin Kaepernick another shot, thanks to Jim Harbaugh?

Out of the game for the last 7 years, Colin Kaepernick is looking for a fresh start on the gridiron. In 2016, he knelt during the national anthem and all hell broke loose. Everyone was divided by his actions. Ultimately, he left the San Francisco 49ers after that season as the team didn’t want him. The reason given was he didn’t fit in their offense. Though that was a bitter pill, he didn’t lose his calm.

He works out every day and desires to return to the big league. In Paris to participate in the 2024 Marathon Pour Tous, he hinted at an NFL comeback. NFL fan groups were abuzz with the possibility of his return. In 2022, the Las Vegas Raiders conducted a trial but the deal couldn’t be finalized. Kap wrote a letter to the New York Jets in 2023 but they couldn’t find any common ground. Still training, the QB wants to prove his mettle once again.

Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh also supported the quarterback’s return. But with a twist. While talking about the QB’s comeback, he said, “If that was ever the path he was to take, I think that would be tremendous. He’d be a tremendous coach if that’s the path he chose.” The 7-year career break has changed the coach’s outlook toward his former QB. They were together at the Niners for 4 years (2011-2014). And the results were fantastic.

In the first 3 seasons, the team reached the playoffs, including a Super Bowl match against the Baltimore Ravens. Colin, too, had a great time with his performance peaking in those 3 seasons. But once the coach departed, the Niners Empire crumbled. More so, for the QB. The franchise failed to qualify for playoffs from 2014 (Harbaugh’s last season there) to 2019. The Pig Socks was also ousted from the league itself in 2016. But he has an offer now.

Kap might not accept the offer, at least until the 2028 LA games. However, he knows he can trust the coach to find him a role whenever he wants.

Colin Kaepernick’s Olympic dreams

The QB also made a big revelation in the Paris interview. He said he could get a gold medal in Flag Football or Javelin throw in the 2028 LA Olympics. If you are wondering, football is entering the Olympics in 2028 in a slightly less physical form. He might be thinking of a ticket to the LA by playing in the NFL. However, his comeback looks improbable. Yet his former coach considers him a hero of American society.

When the QB started kneeling in 2016, the coach stated that while he respected Kap’s rights and motivation; he found his action objectionable. In the subsequent offseason, he penned his support in Time Magazine, writing, “I thank Colin for all he has contributed to the game of football as an outstanding player and trusted teammate. How lucky for us all and for our country to have among our citizens someone as remarkable as Colin Kaepernick.” The support extended not only to words but also to actions. In 2022, the QB was named as the honorary captain for the Michigan Wolverines’ spring game when Harbuagh was there.

Recently, the NCAA imposed a 4-year show-cause order on the coach, applicable from August 7, 2024, to August 6, 2028. Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner, is tight-lipped about the decision but he has supported suspensions to previous coaches in similar situations (like Jim Tressel). The Bolts are concerned. The season is here and if the NFL takes action on their coach, the hopes will be in danger. That’s the last thing Brochachos want to see.
