Is Jerry Jones making a huge mistake by prioritizing Dak Prescott over CeeDee Lamb?

Breaking news is coming in from America’s team. Things are looking bad for the Dallas Cowboys as CeeDee Lamb doubles down on his stance to hold out from the training camp. He didn’t attend the training camp earlier either because he wanted a Justin Jefferson-type deal. Looks like that’s not happening any time soon and the WR is ready to continue his holdout.

Adam Schefter broke the news on Instagram and people are on Jerry Jones’ tail in the comment section. The regular season is just around the corner and mandatory practice has begun. There’s a fine of $40k a day for missing out and the training camp goes on from July 25 to August 21. How long can Lamb keep this up?

“Sources: Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb, who has been unable to land the type of contract extension that other wide receivers have, is not expected to report to training camp Wednesday with the rest of his team. Lamb is entering the last year of a deal scheduled to pay him $17.99 million this season,” wrote Schefter on Instagram.

The whole Dallas Cowboys crew will be there in Oxnard, CA staring July 25 except for CeeDee Lamb. According to NFL, the Dallas Cowboys will impose a $40k fine for each practice missed. If Lamb ends up missing the whole practice, it might end up costing him as high as $1.28 million. Also, he wasn’t on the plane bound to California.

However, it seems like there’s a lot going on within the Dallas Cowboys organization. Just a few days earlier, Dianna Russini’s podcast Scoop City invited Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones to shed some light on the situation.

He remained headstrong about not repeating the same process the Kansas City Chiefs did after they let Tyreek Hill leave. Before Hill left, Mahomes received a huge 10-year $450 million contract. If the Cowboys pay Dak Prescott and huge bag and Lamb ends up leaving, the situation would be catastrophic.

Remember the press conference when Jerry Jones kept repeating the words “all in”? That enthusiasm seems to have faded. But that doesn’t mean that things aren’t in the works. Figuring out how to pay Dak Prescott well upwards of $50 million and paying Lamb another $35 million a year or so might be a huge roadblock for the America’s team.

Moreover, just like CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott, this is also Mike McCarthy’s last season with the Dallas Cowboys. When the Cowboys CEO spoke to Russini, he especially emphasized the fact that the Cowboys have a phenomenal regular season record and how it was a huge improvement.

Recently, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News had some interesting things to say about CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. “The Cowboys are putting Lamb’s contract extension talks ahead of quarterback Dak Prescott’s. Prescott is expected to be on the field next Thursday for the first training camp practice of the summer…When Lamb arrives in Southern California for work is unknown. A person with knowledge of Lamb’s thinking said a final decision hasn’t been made on whether he will continue his holdout when training camp starts.”

For some reason, Prescott has faith in his team and hasn’t shown any acts of rebellion so far. Just like many other receivers in the league, Lamb might get tagged a “diva” by media and fans. It’s noteworthy how CeeDee Lamb, Justin Jefferson and Brandon Aiyuk were all first round picks in the 2020 draft and are in the last year with their respective teams. Jefferson got paid, Aiyuk reported to practice and Lamb however, chooses to stay put.
