Fans were demanding a stop on Sunday’s game! Well, they were not requesting for a pause in the matchup between the Cowboys and the Steelers, they actually wanted to “mute” the veteran NFL announcer, Cris Collinsworth’s commentary. Yes, Collinsworth was on the call for the Week 5 game between the Steelers and the Cowboys. However, fans just want the league to stop NBC’s members from announcing. But why?
Well, the main reason behind their demand was his irrelevant takes in the game. Well, Cris Collinsworth began by discussing the Steelers’ Super Bowl aspirations. In doing so, he mentioned Russell Wilson’s previous Super Bowl victory. Now fans found this frustrating because Wilson’s win happened long ago, which was in 2013. And hence, the listeners felt irrelevant to the current game.
Not only that! The strange comparison from Collinsworth was about to come for the fans which then ignited them more to take a serious jab on the announcer. So, besides Cris Collinsworth’s Russell Wilson’s take, he also compared Cowboys player DeMarvion Overshown to Steelers’ star, TJ Watt. Now, that’s indeed a bizarre comparison, which angered fans. This was because Overshown is still early in his career, with just one sack. In fact, he has only played five games till now, including this one.

Now, this comparison from Cris Collinsworth probably came out after he saw Overshown’s great defensive power in the Week 5 game. For instance, his tackles, including one that was made on Justin Fields who was rushing to the left for a 2-yard gain in the fourth quarter. His game has definitely caught the fans’ attention, but not as much as he is being compared to Watt.
Hence, Collinsworth’s unusual takes didn’t sit well with many NFL fans, who felt these statements were exaggerated, leading to calls to “mute” Collinsworth during the broadcast.
Mute, mute, mute! Cris Collinsworth has a message from netizens!
After Cris Collinsworth made repetitive mistakes on national television by giving irrelevant examples and takes on the Sunday night game between the Steelers and the Cowboys, fans were quite frustrated at him. Hence, many took to X, venting it out, as one said, “I can’t handle listening to Collinsworth. Please make it stop…” and another one remarked, “Cris Collinsworth smh he will literally make you watch a game on MUTE!” Well, that’s quite a strong demand from the NFL fans, who want Collinsworth to just stop commentating.

One fan even added, “Ya I gotta mute Collinsworth, holy f–ck,” and yet another echoed the same sentiment, by sharing a GIF. In that video gif, a person is seen shouting “shut up,” as the fan wrote: “Every time Collinsworth speaks…” All these comments clearly tell that it’s obvious for many viewers that Collinsworth’s commentary has crossed the line from insightful to insufferable.
Hence, one NFL fan narrated what he did while watching SNF. That fan wrote: “Tonight’s NFL game was delayed, so we got to finish a movie. We just turned the game on and are greeted with Cris Collinsworth’s shrill blabbering. <MUTE>” Ouch! That’s a hard hit on the anchor, to whom perhaps no one wants to listen!
That’s the reason fans aren’t just annoyed, they’re even muting him entirely, just like many appeared frustrated with another NBC announcer.
