Are Aikman and Buck too biased, or are fans overreacting to their commentary style?

Be honest, how many of you are watching the Buffalo Bills-New York Jets game on mute? We know that some of us definitely are. The commentary has been abysmally bad and insufferable to hear. Some would even refer to it as “yapping.”

About two years ago, ESPN signed Joe Buck and Troy Aikman to a deal that would pay them in excess of $100 million to call Monday Night Football games. In exchange, ESPN handed over a Friday night college football game to the announcers. This trade might have proven to be a bad bargain.

There have been multiple instances where the duo was caught slipping. In the second quarter on the Jets’ 2nd and 10, Aaron Rodgers delivered a 23-yard pass to Breece Hall, and the commentators couldn’t stop praising him. That play and the commentary didn’t sit well with football fans at all.

There’s a divide between people who think Aikman and Buck are leaning heavily on the Jets, while some Jets fans think that the duo is thrashing the team for no reason. Something else happened when 6:54 remained in the second quarter. It was Tyler Bass’ turn to kick for the XP, and he failed. Check out the conversation between Aikman and Buck.

Joe Buck: Bass. No chance. That was just weird.

Troy Aikman: I don’t think the wind had anything to do with that one.

What’s your perspective on:

Are Aikman and Buck too biased, or are fans overreacting to their commentary style?

Have an interesting take?

Buck: I’ve seen better kicks than that on “College GameDay.” What the heck was that?

If we look closely at the kick, there might have been a chance that the ball was deflected by a Jets player, but the commentators failed to pay heed to that. Comparing this MNF broadcast to what’s going on at the ManningCast, it’s a night-and-day difference. For many fans, this commentary is just pure ear bleed. Listening to Tom Brady might be less hectic at this point. But let’s check out what the fans are saying.

Fans bash Tory Aikman and Joe Buck

A fan was tired of Troy Aikman siding with the Jets and shared his discontent on X saying, “@TroyAikman you need to be off the air my man. call both teams fairly you f—khead.”

Another person penned down his frustration because apparently, Aikman took a shot at the Jets. His post said, “I’m sick of hearing Troy Aikman essentially throw jabs at the Jets. I hope we make this f—ing loser. Eat his words.” A fan commented on the post saying Aikman mistook Joe Tippman for Connor McGovern.

Another fan was not happy that the MNF game with Rodgers in focus is being called by the duo in question. This is my absolute worst nightmare. Aaron Rodgers on Monday Night Football being called by Troy Aikman and Joe Buck.😵💫.”

Joe Buck called Rodgers’ 23-yard pass to Breece Hall a great play, but in this fan’s mind, it couldn’t have been further from the truth. “Joe Buck has no idea what he’s talking about. That’s a bad pass from Aaron Rodgers. Can’t throw a ball like that to a running back. #MNF.”

The abysmal commentary even forced a fan to think about the afterlife when he wrote, “Listening to Joe Buck & Troy Aikman call a football game is what hell must be like.”
