Being a Steelers fan lately feels like watching a soap opera—just with more sacks and fewer happy endings. One minute, it’s Russell Wilson, the comeback story. The next, it’s Justin Fields, the future. And just when you start getting used to the idea of both guys in black and gold, BOOM—rumors drop, and now the whole thing’s looking like a quarterback version of musical chairs. Who’s staying? Who’s leaving?
But what if the Steelers make a decision that will have the fans lose their heads? Let’s cut to the chase—the buzz is, that Wilson may return to the Steel City to play one more season. Nope, not a typo. Reporter Mark Kaboly believes that Dangeruss will be the starting QB of the Pittsburgh team in the 2025 season. Recently, Jason Mackey of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette chose Wilson when asked to predict the QB1 for the Steelers.
And Kaboly agreed with Mackey’s statement. “I think I agree with him (Mackey),” he said. “I think I agree with him, I think Justin’s gonna find more money, more opportunity, a better place somewhere else.” It pretty much sounds like a slap to those who are rooting for Fields to return to Pittsburgh and a vote of confidence in Wilson—like giving Ross another shot at love, even after all the divorces.

No hard feelings for Russ! Sure, the guy was the face of the Seahawks at one point, but even legends hit a rough patch—just ask Michael Jordan about his Wizards days. Besides, the Steelers have the best choice with Fields to lead the team in 2025, don’t they? And he’ll come with better options. For starters, the guy is 10 years younger than Wilson. He’s more athletic than him. He’s not gonna cost much as much as Wilson. On top of that, the team’s need a long-term option for the QB position.
But here’s the kicker: the free agency is almost here. That means Fields has an option to explore the market and find a perfect match for the 2025 season. Most notable? ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes it can be the New York Jets. According to Fowler, Jets could be a “Sleeper Option” for Fields in 2025. The offseason is getting juicy with each passing day.
Here’s the deal: there are several teams looking for a QB in this off-season. But what makes the Jets so special is that they’re the only team looking to fill the QB void on their roster—of course, considering they want to go in different directions with the QB position. Besides, if Fields land in New York, he’ll have one of the best supporting cast this season apart from a hefty contract.
Sure, there are rumors about a Davante Adams trade. But still, the Jets’ new QB will have the WR Garrett Wilson, tight end, Tyler Conklin and running back Breece Hall. All in all, a solid O-line. However, we still have to wait a bit more for the decision to come out. BUT! One thing’s clear: the Steelers’ fans aren’t happy with Russell Wilson returning to the Steel City.
Steelers fans to Wilson: ‘Thanks, but no thanks’
On Monday, the Steelers hit up their official Instagram handle and shared top pics of 2024. And let’s just say, they’re not happy with Russell Wilson being in the frame. The reason’s pretty simple, fans are rooting for the team to sign Justin Fields or should we say, they’re frustrated with Fields not getting a contract. One fan straight-up pleaded, “More pics of Fields and less of Russ, plz.” Like, the man doesn’t even want Wilson in pictures, let alone on the roster. Brutal.

Then there’s frustration hitting the peaks at this point with fans commenting, “How hard is it to re-sign Fields?” and the ever-so-subtle “Sign Fields.” Looks like the fans aren’t just asking right now, they’re literally begging at this point. And the message is loud and clear: sign Fields and move on from Wilson.

And while most of the fans are lost in the QB drama, some are looking ahead, dreaming of better days, which are practically looking very far now. One fan chimed in, “Imagine how many postseason photos we could have if we get rid of this 1989 offensive playbook.” Because let’s be real—the Steelers’ O-line is slower than waiting for George R.R. Martin to finish writing Winds of Winter.
Amidst a forever-long QB debate over Wilson vs. Fields, there’s this fan who dropped a completely different unrelated take. “Queen needs to tackle better.” Huh! The Steel City is fighting for QBs here and someone is worried about missed tackles. But at the end of the day, the Steelers fans are pretty certain about Wilson: Thanks, But No Thanks! Period!
